I was going to continue with my practice of setting 101 goals for the new year, but then I can't remember if I clicked "revert to previous draft" when I opened this page or not, so, my goal for the year is...accomplish something.

I did write about my media highlights and favorite music of 2015.

Goals actually accomplished in 2015:

  • I was able to show [livejournal.com profile] whomp around San Francisco, and I also reconnected with many relatives on both sides of my family! I'm a really social person, and it was great to see and talk with them.

  • With the family, I returned to Las Vegas and Puerto Rico. New places we visited included Yosemite and Mammoth, other towns in Gold Country, Also did more local tourism, including the Renaissance Fair at Casa de Fruta. All the hyperlinks in this paragraph link to pictures!

  • I did get to speak Spanish more, especially in Puerto Rico, and I used Japanese a little at work (although, when one customer asked me a question in Japanese, I answered in Spanish. I corrected myself and she was fine with it, but yeah). I even had a simple conversation in Norwegian! Although I can't say more because we can't post about specific customers on the internet. Even a few phrases of Tagalog helped once. I am now on over 80 days of practicing Gaeilge and Norsk on Duolingo.

  • Finally visited New People when we went to a festival in Japantown. My mom bought me this Omocat sweater...partly because I forgot to wear warm enough clothing for that windy day...

  • I did start lifting 20-pound free weights, and while I didn't get to 25-pound, I did move from 10 reps to 15 reps over the course of the year.

  • I bought some nice and often useful clothes (many via work discount), as well as 2 CDs, nice yearly agendas (classic art for 2015, and a slim Star Wars one with Rey and BB-8 on the cover for 2016 through 2017), and the Universal classic Horror DVD set. Also received a new photo camera and mini-tripod prior to our Las Vegas trip.

  • I did read at least one book from every continent except Antarctica, but I think that's less of a feat because diverse selection is pretty much my general taste when I go to the libraries here. Also read five non-fiction books, as well as five books published in 2015. Now I want to read more from before 1900.

I think I'll just dump my list of TV watched from October through December here. So much I still have to catch up on...

Your Result: You belong in HOUSE TARGARYEN - Fire and Blood

resultA broken house, the blood of the Dragon were once the conquerors of all Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. House Targaryen ruled as the Kings of Westeros for nearly 300 years until the reign of Aerys II, the Mad King. Their seats were the capital city of King's Landing and the island castle of Dragonstone. Their sigil is a three-headed dragon breathing flames, red on black.

I'm also thinking that Game of Thrones' seemingly stubborn refusal to show flashbacks makes it more like theater than a novel. This is similar to what Boardwalk Empire did - maybe it's an HBO thing, or a current style?

Doctor Who was very exciting, although there a few holes that I hope will be addressed later.

My mom and I are now up to season 1, episode 5 of Fringe and enjoying it so far.

I bought the latest album from The Kills. It's pretty solid, with only one truly weak song.

io9's update on upcoming sci-fi shows
The ones that look most interesting to me are Alcatraz (more for the San Francisco factor than even the J.J Abrams factor) and Person of Interest.

Poe? I'll wait to see reports on it.
The River has Bruce Greenwood and horror hype but could get problematic.

I hope we at least get to see the Awakening pilot, just for Titus Welliver vs. zombies.

I like making lists, and as I was making my way through flist, I was ~inspired~.
This is where I like to show off my weird taste.

MY 10 FAVORITE SONGS OF 2010

1) "The Night Last Night (feat. Rose Elinor Dougall and Alex Greenwald)" - Mark Ronson and the Business International
Beautiful use of melody and counterpoint.
2) "Seamstress" - Dessa
Sharp lyrics and haunting sound.
3) Gasoline - The Dead Weather
Raw and ripped.
4) “Tightrope”- Janelle Monae
Can't help but dance to this. Takes a retro R&B sound and makes it fresh.
5) "Tighten Up" -The Black Keys
One Youtube commenter said that he or she sang this song to a scoop of ice cream because it made him or her happy.
6) "Ikiru (To Live)" - Tokyo Jihen
First, it makes crazy use of autotune to create a robotic barbershop chorus feel. Then it breaks into bouncy '20's-ish pop jazz. The melody stays strong throughout, even though its range is probably too ambitious for Ringo-chan's voice (or my voice when I try to sing to it). The lyrics are quite depressing for its bright sound.
7) "Stylo" - Gorillaz
cool on the down low
8) The Tron:Legacy Soundtrack
9) "Runaway" (feat. Pusha T) - Kanye West
I still need to see the short film. However, I realized I really liked this song when it was playing in a store and I became lost in my mind.
10) "The Island - Part 2 - Dusk" - Pendulum
I like fast-paced electronic songs that have lots of variety.

Cover songs that I also enjoyed:
"Stand By Me" - Prince Royce (cover)
be quiet it's cute and fun to sway to
Mike Patton - "Il Cielo In Una Stanza" and "Ore D'Amore"
Songs to burst out in the car or on a table or on a stage.

Best mainstream pop chorus - "Billionaire." There's just something sad and hopeful about it.
Best sound: BRRRRRRMMMMM

Two more lists:

There is a * by stuff I really enjoyed, for one reason or another. Not an exact indication of quality.
