I made shortcakes for breakfast because I felt like it.

I halved the recipe on the Bisquick box, and browned the butter instead of just melting it. It turned out well, although I should have shifted the pan around in the oven so they’d be more even.

My brother was pinching off bits of the last shortcake while I was eating it, argh

He also showed me this "What would happen if REAL teenagers went to Hogwarts" video he saw on io9.

It cracked me up so hard I was crying from laughter- not because of the content, but because, apparently, all British people sound like Mr. Bill.

random random update time

- so my mom and all my Filipino relatives have started watching Glee because of Charice Pempengco. Why do they autotune so much during the songs when I know that Charice can sing clearly?

- I went to the Davis Farmers' Market and bought some tasty yellow peaches. At least I think they're yellow peaches. I don't even remember the name of the farm. I just let the taste of food samples guide me lol

- why are people commenting (in TV reviews and online comments) that Steve Buscemi is not a magnetic enough leading man for Boardwalk Empire? Judging by the way the comments are worded, I think it might be a generational thing. Most people around my age (20's and below) think he's alright, although I don't want to stereotype viewers older than that. Just trying to find a common connection between samples of people that may or may not be true but gives some guidance for further exploration /anthro. He's not the typical lead, but I think he works well for this show, based on the pilot. It had some obvious plain pilot setup dialogue, but I think it's interesting and fun overall. IT HAD ME LOOKING UP WHO ARNOLD ROTHSTEIN WAS. (Though I knew Lucky Luciano.) And it has Kelly MacDonald. And pretty clothes and sets.

- Community was fun but that episode ending was THE BEST.

- Hawaii 5-0 I tried because it was free on-demand and I was bored. The lead guy's fine for this role but compared to Jack Lord (okay I only have vague memories of when I watched reruns of the original), he will never be cool. Seriously, this is the problem with many remakes - the classics had cool, the remakes have ANGST. The dialogue was mostly awful pilot setup stuff but there were some funny bits - "Why are you moving?!" However, all of the leads are likable (and Masi Oka becomes a recurring character from episode 4 on. So I can say that Hiro and Jin and Boomer team up to fight crime), and the scenery gives me so much happy happy Lost nostalgia.
I'll give it another episode.

- THE J.J. ABRAMS - MICHAEL EMERSON - TERRY O'QUINN SHOW IS BEING DEVELOPED BY NBC. I hope it gets picked up and turns out great!

- While moving, I found a small guide to Calculus AB I wrote, featuring Bob and Ed, two disembodied eyeballs looking for a home. Just wait until I scan this thing.

- I like living somewhat close to orchards and Wine Country.

FINALLY

Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] kiratollan!

I was about to go to the website to stream the Arsenal game and then I fell asleep. I only woke up when I missed a call for my work, which was 5 MINUTES AFTER THE GAME ENDED.

So I had to call the person back. Luckily his recorded number still worked.

Then I found out that THE GAME WAS A 6-0 WIN.

I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO BED EARLIER.

I ONLY HAVE MYSELF TO BLAME.

AFTER BREAKFAST, I'M GOING TO BE SO PRODUCTIVE OUT OF FRIGHT.

But late nights can lead to...um, creative things.

Like this thing I made two nights ago that's surprising me by getting a ton of notes on Tumblr:

L is for the way you look at brie

O is for the odor wafting free

V for very, very

cultivated dairy

E is ever more

the calcium source that I adore

and love’s a lactic product - yes it’s true

love’s maybe not meant to share for two

-but-

two in love just ate it

take parmesan and please just grate it

‘cause love’s a cheese I made for you!

I don't even know.

He had never seen the ocean before. Rippling, shifting and infinite.

He had seen cars before, and had learned that humans were a race of skinny tricksters to tolerate but never touch.

This ocean, though.

The ocean was a revelatory image for a mind without words.

Yet, if the bear knew words, as well as the abstract concepts in their bones, there is one name he would give the ocean:

Freedom.

Freedom from trees.

XD and now I shall sleep
ohmygosh should I continue this with the bear sailing the ocean yes yes
and then he finds kelp forests
and this shatters his worldview again

why am I thinking about Mako Tsnami from Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged now

SLEEP

oh wait I have a title: MACRO STORIES

NOW SLEEP

[livejournal.com profile] hazel_belle, you just got me hooked on Hetalia Axis Powers.

Hetalia is a cracked Japanese webcomic view of history, with countries as characters. There's an anime too, but I have not watched it - yet.

So far, I've read the main WWI - WWII story and half of the the extra stories.

It involves pasta, bratwurst, exploding chairs, bad driving, and tearful farewells with panties. oh, and Chibi Italia/Holy Roman Empire is a pretty big ship.

quotes and other info:
- American War Movies: They are fighting the Russians when suddenly aliens attack, so then they band together with the Russians to exterminate the aliens.
- Feeling quite scandalized by the matter, France and Spain would often call out "Stop making passes at Italy!"
-Russia is ONE SCARY GUY. He also declares his hobby as partioning Poland.
- Wikipedia has this under China: He is a big fan of Hello Kitty and tends to end his sentences with the suffix -aru, a Japanese stereotype of how Chinese people speak, however, he replaces the customary -aru with the suffix -ahen, which means opium, when speaking to England, as a reference to the Opium Wars.

LOL THIS ENTIRE THREAD

PETA will be up in arms about RDJ doing dogface, so yes I think we should hold off on such wild ideas. Its just not right right now, you know?

I give it 15. It'll be his last role before he will have passed on, ceased to be, expired and gone to meet his maker, seen his metabolic processes become history, shuffled off his mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleeding choir invisible, and become an ex-RDJ. I predict he will get an Oscar for this brave performance.

RESULTS FOR THE "SUGGEST A SHOW" MEME ARE UP HERE. TAKE A LOOK. IT IS MADNESS.

Just started White Collar and it's pretty fun. I think I'm going to be applauding nearly all the tricks Neal pulls. It was also nice to see that Diahann Carroll (who plays the woman who owns the nice house) still has that voice and elegance.
I'm also up to episode 6 of Community. My brother also watches some scenes over my shoulder, hee. Seriously, colleges will put your face in the most random places - in my experience, I'm on one of the websites, and my friend ended up with an embarassingly-angled (no not that way) picture on a public banner. -facepalm-

This is is the best compilation of upcoming features in 2010. It's so big that parts 10 and 11 aren't up yet. (Part 9 is linked in a sidebar under "recent.") They give some industry thought to both quality and box office, and try to include things outside Hollywood mainstream and Oscar bait.

It starts here.

The films on that list I'm looking forward to, with reasons:

13
I've blogged about this two or three times here, probably because it's a remake of 13 Tzameti, a film that even some posters spoil so if you're into existential minimalist thriller/suspense things WATCH IT WITHOUT LOOKING AT POSTERS OR THE SYNOPSIS THEY MIGHT GIVE IT AWAY ARGH.

This is all I feel I can show:

They'd have to take a different approach for the remake though, since it's a Hollywood release and the internet spoils everything.

Found out today that Sam Riley and not 50 Cent (who does have a small role) plays the main character.

He looks a lot like the original lead (the director's kid brother), doesn't he?

and look at the rest of the cast: Jason Statham, Alexander Skarsgård, Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone
I wonder if they'll play versions of the original characters...oh shoot major drama potential

the other films I'm interested in, with less blabbering about:

44 Inch Chest: one-room gangster drama. John Hurt, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Tom Wilkinson.
The A-Team: for Sharlto
The American: interesting story, potentially different tone
The Beaver: for crazy and Yelchin
Brighton Rock: good cast, interesting story. YAY MORE QUALITY GANGSTER MOVIES
Cemetery Junction: Gervais + Merchant writing together again! and the promo pic looks like this, plus Matthew Goode and Ralph Fiennes.
The Conspirator: "Mary Surratt is the lone female charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination trial of Abraham Lincoln. As the whole nation turns against her, she is forced to rely on her reluctant lawyer to uncover the truth and save her life." dude, I'm sold. Also lol James McAvoy in period beard.
Happy Tears: different story, and Parker Posey!
Harry Brown: WHOA IS MICHAEL CAINE GONNA BEAT UP SOME DUDES?
Hereafter: Clint Eastwood doing transcontinental paranormal. Might be good. Only found out about it (and this article!) through looking for the meme for Mylène Jampanoï, who has one of the prettiest names ever.
Slightly interested in Inception and Iron Man 2. Probably see the latter in theaters because my family enjoyed the first.
It's a Wonderful Afterlife: British South Asian marriage comedy with a murderer twist. ooh
KICK-ASS: THE MOVIE I'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT. MY BROTHER SAYS I'M HIT GIRL, SANS SWEARING. NEED TO READ THE COMICS
Never Let Me Go: KAZUO ISHIGUROOOOO ON SCREEN. argh I keep on borrowing The Remains of the Day to watch but never get around to it.
PAUL: Pegg + Frost.
Perrier's Bounty: Cillian Murphy, Jim Broadbent, and Brendan Gleeson in an Irish dark gangster comedy.
Red Riding Trilogy three different directors TV movies recurring characters multi-layered corruption serial killer. cool.
Salt: haha like it or not my mother is dragging us to this for Angelina Jolie
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: the comics are fun. While I'm not sold on Cera as Scott, EDGAR WRIGHT IS DIRECTING.
Shanghai: story seems whatever but JOHN CUSACK + GONG LI and surprise Jeffrey Dean Morgan what
Splice sounds cool.
...editors coming in and cutting back on a lot of the harder-edged elements for the American theatrical release...
lol we Americans can't handle a Canadian hard edge

I'll link in a new post when parts 10 and 11 are done.

- - -
I bring you: The Man Who Talks in Anagrams.

finally, epic Jason Statham fake death post with Suri Cruise, David Copperfield controlling a robot shark, and much more.
I was up until 5 AM laughing at that thing. Yes, I am horrible. But it brought a Disco Poo gif into my life, so it's all good.

YOU MUST WATCH THIS HILARIOUS FREAKOUT OVER A PRANK

New York Magazine's guide to New Moon is pretty funny, for fans and non-fans alike.
However... aww dude no. All of the background artworks in these movies come from my mom's friend's gallery in South San Francisco. I used to hang out there at least once a month when I was 10 or 11 or so. I snacked on little cheeses and found out that the restaurants in South SF (at least at the time) liked to serve sparkling water instead of plain water.
Long story short - I must defend the gallery's honor. Therefore, BOO YOU NYMAG TRYING TO MAKE AN ART WORLD JOKE.

Finally, a cute story involving Simon Pegg, Charlie Brown, and a very awesome little girl. awwwwww
