so many things going on in the world but my life somehow skitters back and forth and forward

went to Napa Valley wine country for the food on my birthday earlier this month. Here is my flickr album but you can see some of the food on this page of my tags rn.

still have to go through Father's Day photos because we went to a Puerto Rican restaurant and I really like Puerto Rican food that goes beyond rice and beans. give me all the plaintains (and gas pain)

so...Euro 2016...some very interesting results. So great to watch Iceland. Still rooting for Germany of course (#11 scores! aw the memories), and France can be here and there. Poland sometimes catches my interest. too bad for Ireland and some other underdogs but at least they got good wins. haha England. at least it seems like the worst fans left before the round of 16. usually don't root for Italy but (sorry to fans) I was glad they knocked out Spain.

didn't get to see much of Copa America because of work
I did see the last US win, as well as a replay of much of a certain 7-0 game...
on Sunday, I was at PF Chang's bar during my work lunch hour (technically dinner but whatever). The mall was closed but the restaurants outside weren't.
Before the store closed, I saw one or two people in various club shirts, but someone passed by in a Dortmund jersey with Reus on the back and I was like !!! Made me wonder if I would have ended up supporting Dortmund if I started watching soccer later...especially since I like these Polish players (though one was eaten up by Bayern like so many) instead of trying to catch the odd game of unfortunate Bremen...
anyways while I was eating I heard "R U Mine?" play overhead and I was like yesssss. and then I saw on the ESPN news ticker that the Copa America final was about to end overtime and go to penalty kicks and I asked them to switch the TV channel so I could see. And Messi missed! I don't like or hate him or anything it's just a surprise.

wasn't able to get tickets for the Arsenal - MLS All-Stars game, but I'll check again before the match, and if not, I'll go to a place near the stadium to watch with fans.

oh, now I have a videocamera and tripod of my own! also updated my phone because my old hand-me downs became too troublesome. We'll see if I can get myself to be more productive with time and tech. Also going to see if I can use my gift card to get a dolly for the tripod.

btw two of the online compliments for the store where I work thanked me by name for my service!

sometime I'll get to the Penny Dreadful finale. heard it was disappointing but I'm not too invested and the show was often inconsistent anyways. Animal Kingdom started ok but I didn't finish the 2nd episode because it wasn't special enough, besides some good acting, for me to actually carve out time to watch. Orphan Black had an overall solid fourth season, and I'm trying out Thirteen on its BBC America airdates.

still catching up verrrrry slowly on Okkupert, Adventure Time, and Manhattan (I was waiting until I had enough free credits to "purchase" official stream episodes). Waiting out the hype on other shows I haven't tried yet, but maybe I'll start Gomorrah, Detectorists, Bojack Horseman, The Night Of, or Wentworth. Maybe some Japanese or Korean shows or whatever's waiting in my watchlists/bookmarks/drafts. Found that my libraries have more connections to streaming sites that make it easier and actually legal to stream some movies, TV, and books that are hard to find.

I forgot to check about international matches last night

whoa Germany beat Austria 6-2

I know the USA game is at 8 PM on ESPN2. I hope I'll be home then.

Now that myp2p.eu is gone, I'm using vslive.tv because it's easier for me to figure out games in advance with this site rather than atdhe. However, I have to remember to check it every day, instead of twice a week (Friday night for Saturday match updates, Saturday/Sunday midnight for the rest of the week).

chrryblssmninja: (yourmindisfancy_rory)
haha I watched the Telefutura broadcast of the USA - Panama game and they decided to nickname Goodson "Buenhijo"

also, Wondalowski: plays well for the Earthquakes and then chokes at the important times for the USA. Then again, I think he's just started.

Oh, and I caught up with Doctor Who. My brother kept on expressing his brain-broken reaction for 30 minutes afterward.
I'm not enjoying this season as much as last season, but it isn't horrible. I like all the characters, at least.

I should really stop spending so much time on [livejournal.com profile] ontd_lostffa...but I'm busy and then I get very lazy at home.

this is what happens when I don't check flist for 5 days...

I promise I will catch up

I haven't watched non-soccer TV in about a month either. Must catch up

World Cup
the France - South Africa game was really dramatic and kind of entertaining for the schadenfreude. I'm sorry, France, but I think the team needed the lessons of shame. I will support you after this.
Too bad South Africa couldn't get through, but everyone seems to look with respect upon their team's play this tournament.

I like how this round has so many variables that add to the drama.
Now that groups A and B are finished, we will see Uruguay vs. South Korea (which Uruguay will probably win, but at least some fellow Asians progressed to this round!) and Argentina versus Mexico.

lol I actually tried to figure out the following on a post-it:

Group C: Slovenia leads with 4 points and I think 1 pt goal advaEntage. The USA and England are tied, so the next games are crucial. GO USA

Group D: Ghana leads with 4 points and 1 pt goal advantage. Germany is ahead of Serbia only by 3 points goal advantage, so I hope Germany gets through. eee if they play USA I will cheer for USA though. A bit sad that Ghana is the only clear representative for Africa in the next stage, though.

Group E: The Netherlands will definitely pass through, with 6 points and 3 points goal advantage. Japan has one point goal advantage over Denmark, so I'm hoping another Asian team gets through.

Group F: Paraguay, the leader with 4 points and 2 points goal advantage, will play Italy next. New Zealand will play Slovakia. Italy and New Zealand are currently tied, so if Paraguay beats Italy (which could happen; Paraguay are pretty good this year) or New Zealand beats or ties Slovakia and gets more goals than an Italy win or tie...New Zealand might actually get through. whoa ETA: oh wait Paraguay's playing New Zealand and Slovakia's playing Italy. so it looks like NZ has less of a chance. oh well

Group G: Brazil and Portugal are definitely getting through. 6(3) and 4(7).

Group H: Chile leads with 6 points and two points goal advantage. Spain has one point goal advantage over Switzerland. I don't hate Spain at all, but I'm an underdog cheerer and it'd be nice to send a message that no team is "guaranteed" a win. Chile's pretty good this year while Spain hasn't been invincible. So all Switzerland has to do is either tie or win with a goal over Spain's tie or win, given that Spain doesn't lose. Okay, I just want to see Benaglio make more awesome saves in the next round.

aack I've been so busy that I totally forgot about the summer solstice. So my Solstice Special is late once again. But I will get to it!

So now I have a Tim Howard icon. Got it from [livejournal.com profile] streetlightsss. The keyword is "howardmyhero."

I also now have Psylocke (my favorite blonde superhero turned suddenly Asian purple-haired ninja) as my default, and Miroslav Klose doing some weird arm thing in another icon. I uh kind of choked up when he was subbed off...just something about the image of him walking off the pitch really got to me

I've been v v busy lately. But at least we get to watch World Cup games at Work 1 while we work. yesss
Also, my video skills might help me get more paid hours there than I might have recieved. I'm waiting on word about the project, but yayyy my other skills being handy
I listen to the other games on the radio while driving to Work 2, and then I put the live updates on the computer while I'm working, because I don't want to mess up their connection with video.
I'm still looking for secure full-time positions, though.

Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] teaglass (I haven't seen you around, but maybe G can tell you I said hi?) and dear cookie [livejournal.com profile] hellopinkie!

And welcome to all my new LJ friends! I'm the weirdo with a Peter Lorre tag who likes busting open double doors and walking off into the sunset.

uhh....random music.

"Tell 'Em" - Sleigh Bells - I have no idea why I like this song. It's some weird breathy peppy pop song but with loud guitar and cool burst what percussion and street dance background. Free and legal mp3 from Rcrdlbl.

"Il Cielo In Una Stanza" and "Ore D'Amore" as sung by Mike Patton. Classic Italian pop songs, recorded today. I heard lots of praise for this album, and after listening to it, the thing weirds me out. It sounds all retro but then the sound is slick and there are little things thrown in here and there. I don't even know much Italian pop what is this

"Sadie Hawkins" - Doomtree. Hot and cool.

some soccer news over the past month:

via [livejournal.com profile] tigera4j: The Togo National Team (football) is banned from the next two African Cup of Nations and fined $50,000 because they withdrew from this year's after a terrorist attack killed two of their own.

DaMarcus Beasley talks about his car being blown up

oh, and in less serious matters, I heard on the radio that Marta is being transferred to FC Gold Pride! yay team.

last night, I became addicted to Tastespotting. Must...find...new...food...
Among my finds: Homemade hot chocolate and Raspberry, Olive Oil and Thyme Shortbread.

I'm also listening to A Game of Thrones on audiobook. Listening to audiobooks is weird for me, my attention wavers differently. It's like reading a book in a dream. I tend to fare better listening to short stories on the radio. But I'm really liking the book so far. The characters are very interesting.

This is also your Being Human discussion post. I was too lazy to liveblog today, and I forgot some funny quotes! argh.

oh hey, anyone watching the Confederations Cup with USA vs. Italy? I started watching from the 30-minute mark. Feel free to spam with comments; although I am US-biased, I want someone other than Donovan to score so that my mother doesn't continue thinking that he's the only US player worth caring about

ETA: after the game
I should have said "someone other than Donovan but still on the US team
Sacha almost made it in, though.

ETA 2: so the guy who scored two goals from Italy IS FROM NEW JERSEY
I don't mind too much if people apply for other teams, but this guy's case was iffy

I give up I give up…I couldn’t do it…I can’t watch any more TV episodes…internet or otherwise. I give up!

I FAIL AT TV

My rules were pretty strict, though. I had to have seen the episode from the very beginning, with permission made for bathroom breaks and stuff during the episode. So that’s why there’s so few Brothers and Sisters episodes and other shows - I watch them in bits, but I rarely catch the whole thing. Also, news/late night shows like Late Night With Conan O'Brien were not counted.

You see later on that I started to include sports events I watched on TV. This was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] padfootie’s monthly recap posts. I wanted to keep a record of them somehow. I didn't write down the Olympics, though, because that would be too much.

Sometimes I would comment on an episode. No comment doesn’t mean no reaction.

Extras and Office (UK) series finale
Arrested Development
Green Wing
Mighty Boosh

Band of Brothers

THAT THIRD COLUMBUS GOAL WAS INSANE

oh, and is anyone interested in the upcoming midseason series Kings?

When I saw the description back in upfront season, I found the concept interesting, but I didn't think they could pull it off.

KINGS -- "Kings" is an inspiring exploration of the timeless David vs. Goliath struggle. The show is set in a modern metropolis under siege where the fighting has gone on for too long and cost far too many lives. When David Shepherd (Christopher Egan, "Resident Evil: Extinction"), a brave young soldier, rescues the king's (Golden Globe winner Ian McShane, "Deadwood") son from enemy territory, he sets events in motion that will finally bring peace. Suddenly, David is thrust into the limelight, earning the affections of women -- including the king's daughter. When he's promoted to captain, he becomes the reluctant poster boy for hope. But for David, the line between his allies and enemies will blur as the power players in the kingdom go to great lengths to see him fall. From the director (Francis Lawrence) of the blockbuster movie "I Am Legend" comes the ultimate story of David vs. Goliath, and there's no telling who will win. Sebastian Stan ("Gossip Girl") also stars. "Kings" is a production of Universal Media Studios; Michael Green (NBC's "Heroes") is the executive producer. Francis Lawrence ("I Am Legend") is the director and executive producer and Erwin Stoff ("I Am Legend") also is executive producer.

But then I saw this teaser trailer, and I was v v impressed. Maybe this thing can work out after all.

And whoa shoot, it's getting ER's old timeslot.

Brian Cox will play the rival king, and Maculay Culkin to guest?

NBC's old upfront press release.
oh, right, I forgot they're bringing Merlin to NBC. I've seen flist squee about it, but I tried the first five minutes and even Anthony Stewart Head couldn't keep me watching. (yeah, I know the main appeal of the show is the two boys, but I didn't feel like waiting) But I'll give it another try when it comes here. I think my family would want to watch it too.
