Hi people!
Finally finished the comic book for Creative Writing. We were supposed to do an at least 12 panel strip. I did ten pages. Crazy me. I used an old Shadow City idea from 2002. Maybe sometime in the summer I’ll scan it and post it here. Our next project: a scary story contest.
Once again, our film festival page.
To the people who forced Spoken Word to cancel, I wag the Finger of Shame in your faces.
Kennedy Speech and Debate’s Performance Night is June 7th, 6:30 PM, in Rm. 156. Food will be provided. And it’s free!
About the sophomore speech contest: overall, people had better-than-average delivery skills. However, overgeneralizations, slippery slopes, and other fallacies marred some otherwise taut speeches.
The sun makes me happy.
I just finished reading Frankenstein. It’s a good book for those who don’t mind the Romantic style. I did have fun, though, telling everyone “Frankenstein’s monster is emo! Really, he is!”
TV thoughts:
The Alias Series Finale was pretty good, though they could have done better with Tom’s visit to Rachel’s place (did he just leave or what?) and in explaining why the missiles were needed- though they did give several possible reasons. And if Rambaldi is still alive, where is he? But my top ten favorite things about the finale:
10) Peyton going into the Prophet Five meeting at Zurich and assasinating all the twelve members dead, two guns a blazing. Ha.
9) The two-hour episode starting with the location title "Sydney." Effective use of punning there.
8) That whole opening sequence was fun, and showed off all the cast. Marshall in the sauna was hilarious.
7) Carrie reappears! And is awesome!
6) The final Rambaldi sphere spilled blood, not water. Wow.
5) The SpyMommy/Sydney fight.
4) Sloane’s demise, resurrection, and his eternal prison built by Jack
3) the flashback scene when Jack tells Syd not to work at the bank anymore
2) Isabelle knocking down the test tower
1) The ending. Possibility of a spin-off? A TV movie? Why not?
Can’t wait for the Lost season finale. I’m still enjoying this season, though I felt that last year had more forward momentum. Still- is Locke breaking the computer in those previews? And Desmond’s back! Aaaghdfkljdrjareiepacksaspk!
Took a long time to get started- I even stopped watching for a while because of that- but now I see that it was necessary. Even the tired “Get back at the sheriff” thing in the finale led up to what should be one of the greatest TV moments ever:
Russell: "What happened? Tom, what happened? WHAT HAPPENED?!"

Brazilian music’s usually on from 5-7 PM on 91.5 FM. There’s Soundcheck on Live 105 (105.3 FM) from 7-10 PM, which airs stuff that’s new, unsigned, or just doesn’t get much airplay. Then there’s PBS. 10 PM is the indie short showcase Imagemakers. This week had some interesting British/Irish films. Then there’s the original The Office, followed by Monty Python’s Flying Circus. After that I can listen to the whacked and weird experimental music on Discreet Music (? – 1 AM) on KPFA 94.1 FM, and more Brazilian music on that same station from 1-3 AM. I can just come in and out of my room, watch a movie, go online, whatever, and return to hear stuff on the radio that may not be all great, but is at least different and interesting. Woo hoo!
Even if I was atheist I wouldn’t be interested in The DaVinci Code. It’s just whatever to me. But it was weird watching the previews for the movie and wondering:
"A platinum blonde pale guy is killing people? Why is Spike (from Buffy) in this movie? What is going on?"
Heh, with parts in both DaVinci Code and X-men 3, Ian McKellen’s got a successful summer season. That’s cool, because he’s cool. That is all.
Now I need to get back to work. For my next video project I’m making a music video. I’m still writing the song. So far it’s about stuffed animals and toys and drawings and mirror images and houseplants rising up against their human captors. The title: "The Battle Cry of the Non-Human Peoples." See you all someday!
