On Wednesday, one day after Puerta's death, Zambian striker Chaswe Nsofwa died after collapsing during a training session with his Israeli second division side Hapoel Beer Sheva.
In England, a 16-year-old trainee at third division Walsall died last week after suffering a similar collapse in training and a League Cup tie in England on Tuesday was abandoned after Leicester player Clive Clarke collapsed at half time.

In response, FIFA considers mandatory pre-tournament medicals. Is the number of fixtures a problem?
This is scary, guys.

Okay, we need to balance all this tragedy with something light. Happy. Crazy. Possibly funny.

Happy: Franck Ribery has been choosen as the Bundesliga's player of the month for August.
Crazy: The Butt-Biting Bug - Japan's Latest Craze oshiri kajiri mushi...
Possibly funny: CalTV interviews the boys from Superbad. Also from CalTV, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright chat about English cuisine and more. Oh, and Nick + Simon = Brangelina.
Rumor: Joss Whedon wants Pete Doherty to play a zombie on TV?

And, finally, a funnyman's tragedy:
Owen Wilson attempts suicide, is recovering now. Could Steve Coogan be to blame?

Plastic golf clubs. Not even real golf clubs. At least it's something. Makes me want to start grinding a pole or something. And if you read the book, you’ll be so tempted to buy these…

Okay, it does include the scent of the first season finales of both Supernatural and Heroes? Hah I guess we all have our dirty little secrets. I wish I could turn bad. I would turn bad in a second. I'd be the villain."
The Bennet supervillains! Mr. Muggles, sitting, stroking a cat. Yes.
The Murphy/Danny Boyle/Alex Garland actor/director/writer team is working on the upcoming film version of The Golden Compass. Looks nice.

I was watching DW-TV and they had a funny clip of Conan at Intel headquarters, which is quite near my mom’s work. My brother said, “Conan was so close to Mommy!”
Oh, and Conan + kids + cubicle = fun.

My Japanese oral test was on Friday. During the test, I actually said “y” instead of “to” in order to keep his good job in the city. Simplicity is its strength; the plot and characters are followed in a realistic, organic manner. Side details add to the atmosphere and fill in the LJ silence that the wizard boy created.

Oh, and I'm starting to reread Half-Blood Prince now! I think I can see the album cover now. They will be the first band lineup, but the best I can.

The ABC anthology Masters of Science fiction sounds cool. Got some cool links to free songs from South By Southwest too, (the ginormous music festival in Austin right now) along with other music stuff. Just got to organize it all. So, for now, enjoy a link and a music meme.
Karaoke night for Liverpool ends with a discussion of these shows’ relevance to current issues like terrorism. So…don’t many dramas do that nowadays?

Oh, and this isn’t a regular news article with the lead and details later. It’s an essay. It needs a proper conclusion, not some ambiguous anticlimax.

I just have two things to say:
I think that a great draw for supernatural shows is that there is a wistful nostalgia that gently coats each page. While other, flashier series get their (yes, usually well-deserved) notices in mainstream press, Astro City remains comics’ best-kept secret. Somehow, that adds to its appeal.

HA HA AUTO POST
I should do a proper post sometime soon. Prepping stuff for the rest of the semester. Also doing homework. It's taking me a while to catch up on flist. But I will talk about this week, because it's been interesting.

I did watch Rudolf Nureyev: The Russian Years this night. Hee, I just had to try and dance a bit...and then feel disappointed in my ballet failure again. It was a pretty good documentary, though, just a bit rushed at the end.
