I really like horror, ranging from visceral to psychological. Even though there's a strong exploitative side to it, I think horror (with male or female main characters) can get closer to the extreme emotions many females experience, moreso than most romantic comedies or dramas, which are the stereotypical female-aimed genres. This is probably true for any viewer of any gender, but it's been only fairly recently that female appreciation -and not just fainting reactions or distaste- for horror has been discussed. In an effective horror film, both power and vulnerability are dynamic forces in each main character and scene and action.
