Can a small library survive the tough times of today?
Harry Lloyd plays a young British university dropout named Samson Knowles. Having disgraced the family, he has one last chance to get in their good graces (and rich inheritance) keeping an eye on his rebellious sister Lea (Anna Popplewell) studying at a college in the States. Bored and homesick in the sleepy college town, with Lea evading him via dorm gates and studying, Samson soon finds himself devouring all of the films, British TV shows, and books about film at the local library (using his sister's card; she goes there for non-academic things the college libraries lack). When he finds out about the library branch's possible closure, he decides to help them the best way he knows how: making a documentary about the library - showing how it helps the community.
The librarians are first skeptical, but the head librarian (Mary Pat Gleason), exhausted from meeting with municipal authorities and others, decides it can't hurt. Rick Yune plays the librarian in charge of the media collections. He's excited about the project and is sometimes too enthusiastic in front of the camera. Joshua Jackson plays the librarian who is disgruntled and Canadian. When he wishes not to speak, he leaves notes. Mary McDonnell is an eccentric but friendly professor championing the library's cause - and quietly clashing with the head librarian with "little suggestions" on everything from overall goals to library decor. Elizabeth Peña is in charge of the servers and all the technology issues. Her humor is sarcastic and especially sharp when young h4xx0rs think they can best her. Arj Barker plays a librarian who's laid-back about everything, except when annoying people come up to him complaining about computer malfunctions.
Clea DuVall is the children’s librarian. She likes working with kids (and calling out Rick Yune's character on his showy nature) but wonders if she could be doing something better. Dana Davis is an graduate student (in the college's English department) working part-time at the library. The young filmmaker finds her attractive but intimidating. Dan Byrd and Yin Chang are gossipy high school volunteers who admit they're there mainly for the service hours. Max Records is a boy whose parents use the library as a day care, while Lina Leandersson plays a mysterious Swedish teenager who might be using the library as a home.
Over time, Lea starts getting interested in the project.
Rick Yune's character: "So your name's really Samson?"
Samson (operating the camera): "Yeah."
Rick Yune's character: "Awesome! Kickass! Oh, shit, you're going to edit out curses from the movie, right?"
Samson: "Uhh..."
Rick Yune's character: "Ah, keep the realism going. Nice. Just make us look good, 'k?"

cast picture guide: Strahovski, (up-down) Jones, Harris, Fichtner)
Yvonne Strahovski plays a young woman who has made a mess of her life, alienating everyone except the last boss Naomie Harris willing to take a chance on her. One drunken night, she finds herself in an alley, about to vomit. Suddenly, she is attacked by strange half-human creatures. She tries to fend them off, and to her surprise, manages to beat one into submission. Then a strange man (Doug Jones), with a Jack Russell terrier on a leash, gives her a sword. She takes it and slices through the other creatures. The sword then turns into salt.
After the fight, she tries to catch her breath as she immediately demands answers from the strange man.
"What were they? Who are you? Why this sword?"
"You never knew your parents, did you."
"Crap. Either you're the weirdest creep, so I'm keeping this sword out, or this is some destiny thing, something they give me now, 26 years too late."
"They thought that sealing you in this world would keep you safe forever."
"I bet they also thought I'd turn out a nice, perfect girl, living a quiet life happily ever - wait, in this world?"
Young woman finds out fantasy world warrior heritage via the mysterious man who becomes her trainer. She discovers herself, becomes a better person, etc. while fighting baddies and quests that have emerged into this world. William Fitchner is the head bad guy. Her boss does become curious about the change. The swords she gets are made of salt in order for quick transport/hiding and to teach her to make quick attacks. The Jack Russell terrier is a friend and protector to the mysterious guy.
