"...the natural state of the football fan is bitter disappointment, no matter the score."
"...I was a natural Arsenal supporter- I too was often dour, defensive, argumentative, repressed..."
Yes, I am finally reading Fever Pitch. Great stuff.
I thought I would be able to renew it Monday, so I zipped through a 300 page biography of Billy the Kid that afternoon. Hey, the Kid's cool.
But then the computer said that Fever Pitch on hold for someone else, so it is still due the Monday...which is why I shall do my best to finish it by Tuesday. ;)

One of the neighbors' cats, a black-white-grey fluffy thing, was resting on the bench in our patio. That's normal; I've seen several cats do it. What was slightly disturbing was that, for some of its sitting time, the cat lay face down, its head between its paws. My brother and I were like, "Noooo! Emo kitty!"

to be so shocked that squads fluctuate but you love the team because it is That Team That You Love.

Zidane with kids: Such an adorable vid. Will put a smile on your face.
Blackburn dance-off

I saw this listing in the Undergraduate Apprentice Research Program, and I actually squeed "This is what I'm interested in! I am so applying for this!"
This project will research contemporary efforts, many of them taking place in Bay Area universities and organizations, to extend the platforms, techniques, and philosophies of the open source movements and other forms of "public domain activism" into the biological, agricultural, and biomedical sciences. How are notions of public and private being defined or redefined? What are the practical and theoretical implications of new articulations of 'innovation' that place a premium on ideas of open access and sharing over privatization and property? I will be working on these issues in conversation with literature in anthropology, science studies, and the law (esp regarding intellectual property) in order to think about the promise and limits of the "public domain" as the anchor-point for new understandings of research, development, access, and circulation.
Qualifications: Students involved in this project will be doing bibliographic work, internet-based research, and some local (perhaps even within UCB) legwork to identify research initiatives that are doing the kind of work of interest to me in this project. We will also be doing some reading and library work to identify relevant theoretical work in the fields of science studies, anthropology, and the law. We will then work collaboratively to chart a course for a research agenda.
Weekly Hours: to be negotiated
yay yay yay
