I AM FREE!
Well, okay, I still have finals on Wednesday and Thursday. But NO MORE CLASSES THIS YEAR YAY. Thanks to you all for the nice comments about the oral exam. My conversation partner and I were really nervous, and I’m so grateful to her for leading with most of the questions. Most of my answers were really simple, and I stumbled a lot, but I think the teacher would understand. On the written exam, I was able to go with my instinct with all except one part of each half of the exam. And on the listening exam, on one question, I listened to the wrong thing (I kept on writing down “go”, for 5, but then I realized that it was the “go” for time of day aack). But I’ll still take Japanese 1B next semester. The program is well-developed and interesting, and hiragana is so fun and pretty to write with.
Crazy things I saw on the news today:
BBC-Italian guy tries to burn himself during an interview
TG1 (in Italian)- "L’omerta regne en Napoli" followed by a story about the Cosa Nostra in Sicily. There was also something involving Naples, environmental waster, rockets, and t3h 3v0l Stanfurd; as well as another thing involving Gilardino, AC Milan, money(?) scandal and Berlusconi daughters. And I could go on about how amusingly casual the hosts act on the Italian news.

I enjoy crack squirrel stories. This time it’s in South London.
Lost moves to new hour. At least we don’t have to face American Idol anymore.

Pick the UEFA Team of the Year!
My team:

Yes, 5 Frenchmen, four Germans (including the coach and captain), one Englishman, one Italian. I picked due to the performances I saw during the World Cup and in the competitions afterward. There’s no thought to team dynamics, though.
Tough decisions:
Gallas over Thuram. Thuram’s strong and scary (when he came out on the field against Bremen I said “oh shoot”) but Gallas is also good and reliable. There’s also the teensy weensy fact that Thuram plays for grrBarca while Gallas plays for wheeArsenal. But they are both part of Les Bleus, so that’s all coo.
Pirlo over Fabregas. I like Cesc a lot, and he plays for Arsenal! But Pirlo’s a solid, tricksy Azzurro with great footwork and valuable experience. Cesc has also been getting angry a lot recently.
Schweini over Malouda. Schweinstieger is awesome, and I had enough Frenchmen anyway.
Kaká over Riquelme. Argentina will kill me now.
Also, I wish I could have Villa on the team too, because he’s pretty good. So I guess I’d have two Spanish players -Villa and Cesc- on reserve.
But the toughest decision: select a captain. Gaaahh most of my team would make (and have made) excellent captains! But I eventually narrowed it down to Miro and Henry. The fact that Henry is more obvious in milking for penalties (though honest about it afterwards) made me give the armband to Miro. Henry’s still cool, though.
Via the Pop Candy blog: look at this cooooooll map of songs being played on the radio right now in the US oooh the words pop up.
Finally, since I have no classes, I decided to finally read more of a book about haiku that I keep on borrowing but never read more than a chapter of. I was inspired to write two poems. Now, usually I’m paranoid that if I decide to publish my poems someday that posting them here might cause some copyright troubles later.
Poems below are the intellectual property of Diandra Rodriguez. They be short and strange.
Scroll
the scroll unfurls,
releasing seeds-
sweet wind tugs my hair
behind me
Spring stalks from the shadows
Spring came for you,
and all you saw was rain.
Spring came for you,
you simply switched your wardrobe.
Spring came for you,
green-just a picture frame.
Until
that day
they were late.
There you stood,
waiting
and Spring felt it safe to approach.
Now I retreat to my 100% cacao chocolate bar.

2006-12-09 21:36 (UTC)The second poem was nifty. :) The persona of Spring was short and simple and felt almost dangerous at first, and then meek. It was a cool transition and me liked lots. :)
