First Faye Dunaway vs. Hilary Duff, now Etta James vs. Beyonce Knowles. Video comparisons.

Fox gets its grindhouse on with retro combo ad for Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse.
It would be awesome if ABC did a similar thing for Lost...

speaking of Lost, Entertainment Weekly's "Digging Inside Season 5"
spoilerish, but more of the hinty variety, which I'm okay with.
Particularly of note are comments about the show from the cast - especially: Jorge Garcia talking about the Hurley-centric “The Lie,” Matthew Fox giving some very interesting thoughts about the triangle business, and Jeremy Davies talking about how the Faraday role has helped him deal with recent tragedy.

Also, for those who think the show's new Latin detail is out of nowhere, take a look at the Blast Door Map from season 2. Got the tip from a TWOP poster, I think.

Lost party costumes!
aww the little kid dressed as The Island

Nestor Carbonell talks about Richard and eyelashes.

Christian Bale: "I make no excuses for it, it is inexcusable. And I hope that that is absolutely clear,"
other quotes:
"I also appreciate you making fun of it," he says. "You know, I had it coming. Feel free to make fun of me."
also: “Please, Michael Phelps, swim in the next Olympics,” Bale said.

more Dollhouse: an article about the beautiful set, and

I was looking for more info on the Fables TV pilot, and I found this article from a while back.
Comments of interest:
It would be sweet if they put the Fables borders around the screen. changing them depending what was happening.
I like when they do the fake HD splitscreen thing for music videos, but other people don't like it, so whatever.

But the big problem is I REALLY want to see Snow White empty a gun into Shere Khan while screaming "Die you sick mother fucker!" I just don't see that happening in this version.
yes, that did happen in the comic. Why aren't you reading Fables yet?

Finally, Zombie Hello Kitty cake.

I give up I give up…I couldn’t do it…I can’t watch any more TV episodes…internet or otherwise. I give up!

I FAIL AT TV

My rules were pretty strict, though. I had to have seen the episode from the very beginning, with permission made for bathroom breaks and stuff during the episode. So that’s why there’s so few Brothers and Sisters episodes and other shows - I watch them in bits, but I rarely catch the whole thing. Also, news/late night shows like Late Night With Conan O'Brien were not counted.

You see later on that I started to include sports events I watched on TV. This was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] padfootie’s monthly recap posts. I wanted to keep a record of them somehow. I didn't write down the Olympics, though, because that would be too much.

Sometimes I would comment on an episode. No comment doesn’t mean no reaction.

And I have finally finished The Middleman.
psst go stream it here
Go buy it on Itunes if you can. The ABC Family site is being stingy with the streaming.

random quotes I managed to type down (not even the funniest ones)
"Hot pockets are the American empanada."

"I'm as serious as a German film festival."

"So basically you’re Highlander with a tuba."

"How many dates have you had unfold like the second act of Miss Saigon?”

"Today John Wayne does not get to ride of into the sunset with Grace Kelly."
The Middleman: That's Gary Cooper.
HIGH NOON REFERENCE FTW

"Hawks of the Luftwaffe! That's it! You've cracked it!"

"I'm as serious as a Hefty bag full of Rottweilers."

Middleman quotes:

must be reposted: Lacey dancing in her bear suit.

And, of course, the cutest, geekiest of shows is in threat of cancellation. Sheesh, isn't ABC Family getting a ton of ratings money from that Secret of of an American Teenager? And this show has strong, more realistic female characters! Fighting comic book evil!
and zombies! and luchadores! and vampire puppets! Even Dr. Horrible's freeze ray makes an appearance!

We end with some cow squirt.

I didn't feel the earthquake.

My brother was standing next to the bed I was watching TV on, and he thought it was just me shifting in the bed, causing it to shake.

Only the TV told us the truth. :0

It was centered 2 miles east of Alamo (CALIFORNIA MIND YOU), which is far, so that probably why the TV station in San Francisco felt it more sharply than we did in Fremont. Although they did feel it in Berkeley.

Only 4.0, though. Might be some wiring or piping thrown off, but that's probably it. I have a feeling there won't be any significant aftershocks.

okay. Now, I'm catching up with The Middleman - very cute, fun show - and I just finished Episode 9. But, can someone tell me I'm not crazy on this tiny little point:

Doesn't the guy who plays Pip (landlord's wannabe-artist son) looks like Robert Pattinson? Just a bit?
lol rpattz doing Pip's spoken word performance

The Bechdel Rule and more

Twenty-three years ago, cartoonist Alison Bechdel had one of her female characters cite a simple rule: She'd only go to see a movie if it had:

1. At least two female characters, who ...
2. talk to each other about...
3. something besides a man.

It became known as The Bechdel Rule. It seemed like such a simple idea -- and it still resonates, because it articulates something often missing in popular culture.

I left a comment there about people hating on the Morales rule.

These are important guidelines to keep in mind while viewing, but for one thing I wouldn't be able to watch all the old gangster movies I enjoy if I held 100% to it.

It should be called the Ripley rule!

My music teacher called me "awesome" today.
It had to do with remembering to remind her about something the class needs to know.
And she remembered my name.
:D
The workload looks a bit tougher this semester, but I have a feeling iI'll still like these classes.

Watch Gankutsuou, the anime version of The Count of Monte Cristo. Not only are the visuals dazzling, but the characters are great and the classic story is delivered brilliantly, elegantly working the French Rococo in Photoshop Texture Future setting into the tale. Beautiful in nearly all aspects. I need to get Vol 5 soon.

and I so want Eugenie's jacket. It's in the icon. It looks prettier and more natural in the show.

yes, she is wearing a stained glass pattern dress.

This screencap isn't much, but the scene it's from was so so brilliant

Someone used the Gankutsuou coloring technique on this picture of Supergirl.

VICTORY!

I have finally completed the final edit for the first video in my internship! yay!

Imaginary drinks for y'all are on me! wahooo!

In other stuff going on right now:
- I am addicted to Word Connect, this Scrabble knockoff on my comp. I started at Level 10 and I make myself beat it three times before increasing the difficulty. I'm past Win 1 on 13 difficulty now.
- I have watched the first three episodes of The Middleman. Very cute show.
- We finally got the Battlestar Galactica S3 DVDs from the library, and are currently halfway through the season.
My dreams last night didn't get memorably fannish until right at the end, when suddenly camera!me (I'm just a film camera, my body is nowhere to be seen) is in the Galactica mess hall. Apollo and Starbuck are arguing, of course, and then Apollo says, "But Japan is the 51st state!"
And then I woke up.

and a final lol - I saw the Hong Kong gangster movie Election and I found an .mp3 of the song that you will definitely be humming afterward if you watched that movie. The film itself is cool too; I have Election 2 on hold (from what I've heard it's even better than the first one) and I plan to complete the trilogy.
