Heroes season finale thoughts )

A bit of fun from [livejournal.com profile] lay_of_luthien: Sylar vs. Peter, the musical!

Okay, some of you might need to temper all this Heroes squee with some seriousness. Tons of TV stuff (including the Fox/CW upfront thoughts, finally to come next post. And now, the depressing world of reality.

That reminds me: we went to San Francisco on Saturday to visit the De Young Museum. Afterward we spent some time in the Sunset District. In the Sunset, for every two blocks, you are guaranteed: a handful of Chinese restaurants, tiny discount stores packed tight with tons of goods, one grocery, one bank, one Vietnamese or Russian food shop, one Thai restaurant, and in between it all, an Irish pub. It’s true. We drove around a lot. We saw like 10 or 15 pubs in all. Oh, and we saw a car commercial being filmed in an alley near downtown. It was awesome.

via this post, I learned about this:

Mayor bans soccer in city park.

Okay, so it's a bit more complicated than "Oh my gosh he hates soccer he should die," but...just read the article.

I remember reading somewhere that one of the advantages that US soccer has over the rest of the world (gasp!) is that, because it's not super big, it's less prone to the violence and corruption that plague leagues in other countries. I'm not saying its immune, but it's relatively more family-friendly and innocent. It's not as absorbing, but gains and losses and all that stuff.

And now I have to try and get Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" out of my head. I like the song, but it's been playing in my head for most of the past two days. It's given me ideas for my imaginary Heroes character, though.

R.I.P., M.L.K. Jr.

Oh, and there are still lots of characters unguessed in my fave chara meme. Come on down!

So I was online last night, about 12:30 AM-ish, when something distracted me from the computer. SOMETHING actually distracted ME from ONLINE TIME? So much that I gave up trying to surf and just watched until it ended at 2?
It wasn’t soccer.
It wasn’t any current fandom.
It was Spy.
It’s a BBC reality show about people training to become spies. I don’t think they’ll become official spies, because showing them on TV would be counterproductive. But watching the people attempt to succeed in missions is just fascinating. The film grade is movie-quality, a lot better than the grainy stuff used in shooting most reality shows and documentaries. In fact, the way the show is shot is a mix of reality show and documentary. It’s a bit annoying when the three experts summarize everything that’s happened, while standing in a tacky power-triangle setup. But otherwise, their insight is intriguing, and watching the contestants achieve their goals -or fail miserably- made me clutch my face in nervous anticipation.
The thing I like best about watching reality TV is thinking of what I would do and what they should do. With spying, it’s basically how well you act. Can you come up with a good cover, stick to it, and get the job done? Can you exploit situations and emotions to your advantage? It’s so tense.

After watching, I came up with an idea of making a TV show about the filming of the US version of Spy. Crazy, yeah, but I’ve been thinking it through and it could work.

Okay, as promised:

And finally, since tonight is Golden Globe night…
The Golden Tomatoes!
I liked this response the best:
“Michel Gondry, writer and director of the Golden Tomato winner for Romance, "The Science of Sleep," demonstrated that he can sling barbs as well as any critic when he said, "I am thrilled by this Rotten recognition of the critics. Although, one of them said I should not be allowed to hold a pen, so I wanted to know if I could be offered a Rotten Tomato pen as a trophy that I would gladly present to this critic to place in a not so romantic location.””

Oh, and grr Fabio Capello.

That is all. -phew-
Now I need to finish reviewing Japanese, because I go back to school tomorrow…

Surprise at the end of this post, under the lj-cut.

Went to Berkeley on Tuesday to get my class pass and buy textbooks. On BART, there was this guy who looked like a paranoid Kaká. He was looking out of the corner of his eye in my general direction, like I was going to kill him or something. It was weird.
It was surprisingly warm that day, though it got cold when the sun went down. We also went to Hot Topic to get the Halo sweatshirt my brother was bugging about. I bought for myself a shirt that says "My parents told me I could be whatever I want when I grow up. So I decided to become a NINJA." It's red, with a giant ninja head. It is awesome.

Music
Check out these lists of the top band performances in films.
Daytrotter is an interesting site with exclusive studio performances by various indie groups. So, the songs are legal to download. Along with the songs are wordy, embarrassingly enthusiastic profiles of the bands and songs, as well as exclusive interviews and pictures. The artists range from the soul-infused rockers Cold War Kids to the fangeeky Harry and the Potters, whom I happened to run into one day…

Joss Whedon will direct an episode of The Office! First Harold Ramis, then J.J Abrams, and now Joss? Wahoo!
Celebrity Patents! Michael Jackson invented the “Method and means for creating anti-gravity illusion?”

Master Shake, Meatwad, and my fave Frylock are getting their own movie!

It was so cute to see Heroes win a People’s Choice Award. Yay Masi Oka giving the acceptance speech, and all the cast was there on stage and happy…
Speaking of Oka, his hints on upcoming Heroes episodes
Has anyone seen the previews for Epic Movie? It looks like a lame parody of Narnia/X-men/Superman/Borat/etc. But that girl with the reddish hair? And big eyes? That’s Jayma Mays, who was awesome as Charlie in Heroes and the nervous receptionist in Red Eye. From her imdb page: “Enjoys doing long division and multiplying fractions in her spare time.” How cute is that!

Random and unrelated: I was watching Akeelah and the Bee (which was pretty good) when I noticed that one of the characters was Darnell! The Crab Man! Hee.

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. Studying for AP Literature test and all. Hope my essays were okay.

First, the important stuff.

I respect the people who chose to honor the May 1 immigration rights day in the way that they felt was best: either by staying home from work or school, or by going to work or school but still wearing white and respecting the economic boycott. My friends and I did the latter. Anyone who also remembered the labor origins of May Day deserves a cookie as well.

Here’s a good article on Sudan by Paul Rubeasagina (spelling?). You may know him as the guy Don Cheadle portrayed in Hotel Rwanda.
The world fails to act on another slaughter.

Now, on to lighter topics.

May 4 was Star Wars day.

May 6- this Saturday- is Free Comic Book Day. Click on the link to find a participating store near you.

The promised Batman post )

In other news, there’s a Neil Gaiman tribute album coming out, featuring Tori Amos, Rasputina, and others. Should be interesting.

Oh, and vote for the good people in the MTV Movie Awards. The java-packed voting ballots take a few seconds to load, though. But we cannot let certain nominees win. So, even if you don’t like MTV, please vote!
And the nominees are… )

I had fun at the Manga Expo here in Fremont last Saturday. We didn’t have a lot of time, but I talked to some of the artists, checked the booths and merchandise, and BOUGHT AN ADVENT CHILDREN PILLOW! There were more cosplayers this year too.

So…it was Bloody Wednesday on TV. Two deaths due to sharp objects on Alias, two deaths by bullet on Lost, and one guy smashed into a trash receptacle on Invasion. Whew.

The TV Thursday that followed was the day of Daddy Disguises. (Smallville, Supernatural.)

Oh, and the Spring issue of Youth Today just came out in Fremont. The editors squished my article a bit, and added the word "slated." They also identified my female teacher as a "he." Otherwise it’s what I wrote. Some of the other articles are cool too- my favorite ones are about Wizard rock and Fremont's very own pirate store.

Well, see y’all someday.

BERKELEY ACCEPTED ME!
Here’s the story )
I ate dinner, played some more Spider, called [livejournal.com profile] xxlokixx, and played a little more Spider. That game is a bit addictive.

But now, the most important thing that happened yesterday:
My school's big protest day )
It’s just like the “Native” Americans vs. the Irish over a hundred years ago. Just remember that Europeans were the first illegal immigrants in the Americas.

Channel 26 will broadcast some of our videos on April 28. More details to come.

I can say some pretty weird things. I told a super-cute baby that she was a drool factory, and I told my neighbor’s cat that “You look like a raccoon! You smell like a raccoon!”

TV and movie comments )

When I was talking with Loki, she said that Lynbrook’s Grad Night is at Lynbrook. Our Grad Night is at Disneyland. We get to share Disneyland with other schools from 10 PM to 6 AM. I will be so dazed by the end of that thing…

Finally, just a warning: avoid the rain of frogs predicted Sunday evening. And Happy April Fool’s Day.
