I've watched that 4 times now.

Virtuality pilot to air July 4
Independence Day? lol

lots and lots of upfront pilot news here

oh hey here's nice music meme. I don't usually spread friending memes, but this one's got a good variety of respondents.

Finally...Zombie Pinups!

I've only watched most of the second half so far, but...

THAT THIRD COLUMBUS GOAL WAS INSANE

oh, and is anyone interested in the upcoming midseason series Kings?

When I saw the description back in upfront season, I found the concept interesting, but I didn't think they could pull it off.

KINGS -- "Kings" is an inspiring exploration of the timeless David vs. Goliath struggle. The show is set in a modern metropolis under siege where the fighting has gone on for too long and cost far too many lives. When David Shepherd (Christopher Egan, "Resident Evil: Extinction"), a brave young soldier, rescues the king's (Golden Globe winner Ian McShane, "Deadwood") son from enemy territory, he sets events in motion that will finally bring peace. Suddenly, David is thrust into the limelight, earning the affections of women -- including the king's daughter. When he's promoted to captain, he becomes the reluctant poster boy for hope. But for David, the line between his allies and enemies will blur as the power players in the kingdom go to great lengths to see him fall. From the director (Francis Lawrence) of the blockbuster movie "I Am Legend" comes the ultimate story of David vs. Goliath, and there's no telling who will win. Sebastian Stan ("Gossip Girl") also stars. "Kings" is a production of Universal Media Studios; Michael Green (NBC's "Heroes") is the executive producer. Francis Lawrence ("I Am Legend") is the director and executive producer and Erwin Stoff ("I Am Legend") also is executive producer.

But then I saw this teaser trailer, and I was v v impressed. Maybe this thing can work out after all.

And whoa shoot, it's getting ER's old timeslot.

Brian Cox will play the rival king, and Maculay Culkin to guest?

NBC's old upfront press release.
oh, right, I forgot they're bringing Merlin to NBC. I've seen flist squee about it, but I tried the first five minutes and even Anthony Stewart Head couldn't keep me watching. (yeah, I know the main appeal of the show is the two boys, but I didn't feel like waiting) But I'll give it another try when it comes here. I think my family would want to watch it too.
chrryblssmninja: (Default)
I'm so going to be spamming your flist with posts now.

Fox's upfront stuff:
Outside FOX: cows. It has to do with 'Fringe,' we're to understand.
oh, J.J. If "Fringe" becomes a low-ratings cult hit, will people mail dairy to save it?

article: Bovine inspiration at the Fox upfront

Fringe trailer
looks like Alias - CIA style + FBI procedural conspiracy + Lost's plane trouble and bony Abbadon guy and daddy issues and...
Dude, saying "the writers of Transformers" isn't going to help you. Hey, they were staff writers on Alias too.
Looks just okay.

The Dollhouse trailer's a bit more fun.

The new show lineup:

Do Not Disturb - Comedy - Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: An "Upstairs/Downstairs"-style look at the employees and guests at a ritzy New York hotel.
First Impressions: Niecy Nash is funny. Jesse Tyler Ferguson is funny. Jerry O'Connell is capable of being funny. The clips from "Do Not Disturb" are not particularly funny, even by the standards set by "'Til Death." FOX did, however, screen clips from possible midseason entry "Outnumbered," which delivered several laughs and gave off a strong "Malcolm in the Middle" vibe. "Outnumbered" is a single-camera comedy, while the laff-track (or sweetened audience laughter) in "Do Not Disturb" is already irksome.
Stars: Niecy Nash ("Reno 911!"), Jerry O'Connell ("Carpoolers"), Jesse Tyler Ferguson ("The Class"), Molly Stanton ("Twins"), Jolene Purdy, Brando Eaton

whatever.

Sit Down, Shut Up - Animated Comedy - Premiering: Midseason
Premise: A group of teachers at a high school in a northeaster fishing town care more about their own disagreements and insecurities than about the welfare of their students. Based on an Australian format.
First Impressions: The mixture of live action backgrounds and traditional animation looks unique on a network that's become overwhelmed with Seth MacFarlane's particular style. It's a fantastic voice cast and we'll follow Mitch Hurwitz anywhere after "Arrested Development." That being said, the clips from the actual show were less funny than the behind the scenes banter with the actors and Hurwitz's own descriptions of the show.
Stars: Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Henry Winkler, Cheri Oteri, Will Forte, Regina King, Nick Kroll, Tom Kenny and Maria Bamford

aww, I like the voice cast, and this still looks cool.

Fringe - Drama - Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: A young FBI agent has to team up with an eccentric, volatile scientist and his estranged genius son to solve crimes involving fringe science, the science of the supposedly impossible.
First Impressions: Alex Graves, who helmed the pilots for "Journeyman" and "The Nine," is one of TV's underrated directors and the clips from "Fringe" look stylish and handsome, instantly establishing a visual template for an intriguing thriller. Joshua Jackson conveys instant rogue charm and Lance Reddick's stern assertiveness is only slowly beginning to be recognized by non-"Wire" viewers. Anna Torv and John Noble's attempted American accents are going to take a bit of getting used to. Will "Fringe" find enough levity under the darkness to compliment its "House" lead-in? We're intrigued.
Stars: Anna Torv ("The Secret Life of Us"), John Noble ("24"), Joshua Jackson ("Dawson's Creek"), Lance Reddick ("The Wire"), Kirk Acevedo ("The Black Donnellys"), Jasika Nicole, Mark Valley

oh, that's where I remember Kirk Acevedo from.
I don't know, needs more high concept crazy to hook me in. ah I'm so picky

Dollhouse - Drama - Premiering: Midseason
Premise: Echo is a Doll. She can be imprinted with a new personality and past to do all manner of jobs, but when she isn't on the job she has no memory of her own. But when Echo starts having memories, things get complicated for her, the other Dolls and the FBI agent trying to discover the truth about the Dollhouse.
First Impressions: Instantly atmospheric and notable for its production design and attractive cast, "Dollhouse" isn't instantly recognizable as Whedon-esque. From the clips shown to advertisers, Eliza Dushku is being used as the selling point and the clips show her swimming, dancing, speaking Spanish and waving a gun, so there's something for everybody. Like "Fringe," the pilot seems to be pepper with some weird American accents, though at least Olivia Williams gets to use her native tongue. You can't necessarily tell what the series is, but who are we kidding? We're so there.
Stars: Eliza Dushku ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Tahmoh Penikett ("Battlestar Galactica"), Fran Kranz ("Welcome to the Captain"), Olivia Williams ("Rushmore"), Harry Lennix ("24"), Dichen Lachman ("Neighbours"), Enver Gjokaj

Oh, Olivia Williams was the teacher in Rushmore, right?
The more interesting show here.

The Cleveland Show - Animated Comedy -Premiering: Midseason
Premise: Peter Griffin's buddy Cleveland moves to Stoolbend, VA with his son, his high school sweetheart Donna and her daughter. The wacky neighbors include a loudmouth redneck couple, a British family seemingly stuck in the Victorian era and a family of bears in this "Family Guy" spin-off.
First Impressions: FOX didn't give us much to go on, but we like Cleveland and we like talking bears and one member of the Zap2it staff has already abandoned our home office to move to Virginia with a loved one from his past. He doesn't have wacky British family as his neighbor or his own '70s flavored opening theme song, but we're sure this one is going to hit close to home.

I like that title for some reason.

Secret Millionaire - Alternative - Premiering: Midseason
Premise: A group of wealthy individuals go undercover in impoverished neighborhoods and learn valuable lessons about how the other half lives. At the end of their journey, each of the millionaires will give a donation of a minimum of $100,000 to a lucky recipient (or recipients).
First Impression: FOX's reality guru Mike Darnell is walking a tightrope here. Best case scenario, this is the sort of three-hanky sentimental reality stuff that only ABC does well. Worst case scenario, it's Life Stinks: The Reality Show, a condescending effort in which rich people spend a week or two discovering that not all poor people are welfare cheats, write checks that sound big to us but barely amount to an interest payment for them and then go back to their mansions thinking they're better people.

If it really does change lives for the better, that's nice. I still probably wouldn't watch it.
chrryblssmninja: (earth-vexer_melfannish)
First,

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] pablo___!

Have a superfantastic day, Lease.

Now, more upfront stuff.

More on ABC and CW, via [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63:
ABC has a wide array of pilots being considered for midseason, including eight comedies and nine dramas: "Bad Mother's Handbook," "Five Year Plan," "Never Better," "Roman's Empire," "This Might Hurt," "Fourplay" (previously "Untitled Kohan/Mutchnick Project"), "Single With Parents" (previously "My Brother's Hot (And Other Dilemmas)" and "In the Motherhood" on the comedy front and "Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas," "Castle," "Cupid," "Finnegan," "Good Behavior," "Prince of Motor City," "Untitled David Hemingson Project," "The Unusuals" and "Section 8" on the drama side.

The only ones of these I know anything about are:
"Cupid," aka the possibly brilliant, possibly ghastly redo of Rob Thomas' unfairly canceled 90's show about a man who might be the Roman god Cupid exiled to earth or may just be a crazy man trying to be a matchmaker. I loved the original but am not convinced they can catch that lightning in the bottle again; and "Prince of Motor City," which is sort of like "Cane" was this year, but in Detroit, with cars instead of sugar.

I heard horrible things about "In the Motherhood." "The Unusuals" sounds potentially interesting. And I remember "Cupid!" I was too young to really understand everything, but I remember it!

full premise of the new 90210. Really, read the whole thing. )

And now, for CBS.
Story on 2008-2009 season

The shows:
Eleventh Hour - Drama - Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Accompanied by his beautiful blonde bodyguard, a government science advisor travels the country investigating abuses of science and crimes of a scientific nature. The project is based on a British miniseries.
First Impressions: There's the "Dark Knight" teaser with the tagline "Why so serious?" which may apply to "Eleventh Hour" as well. The pilot appears to have taken its cloned babies plotline directly from the British original and director Danny Cannon has given the show his trademark stylized look. Rufus Sewell looks to be a capable and compelling lead, but why did the clips screened for advertisers feature Marc Blucas -- presumably in what is just a one-off guest appearance -- far more than Marley Shelton, the show's second lead? Even if the clips weren't instantly outstanding, this is a slam-dunk in the post-"CSI" slot.
Stars: Rufus Sewell ("Dark City"), Marley Shelton ("Sin City")

Rufus Sewell has a dramatic face. But hee the description "beautiful blonde bodyguard." Unless she's like Mercy from the Superman comics/animated series. Then that would be fantastic.

The Ex List - Comedic Drama - Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Successful thirtysomething business owner Bella has everything she could possibly want. Except for a man. When a psychic tells her she's already dated her future husband, Bella has to go through her past romantic history to find the perfect man who got away. The catch? If she doesn't find the guy in the next year, she'll die alone. The series is based on an Israeli format.
First Impressions: Elizabeth Reaser looks fantastic. And there should be plenty of female appeal for audiences coming out of "Ghost Whisperer." But what would possibly make any man watch this latest incarnation in the "Beautiful, successful woman who just isn't complete without a phallus in her life" genre? The best part of the clips were Eric Balfour, playing a hilarious caricature-of-type as a dickweed boyfriend from the main character's past. If he returns, perhaps we'll watch again.
Stars: Elizabeth Reaser ("Grey's Anatomy"), Rachel Boston ("American Dreams"), Adam Rothenberg ("Mad Money"), Alex Breckenridge ("Dirt"), Amir Talai ("Campus Ladies")

Chick-flick version of "New Amsterdam." Though without the cool immortality and crime-solving aspect (why do they always give the more interesting things to the guys?). Except it's based on another show. But still.

The Mentalist - Drama -Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Patrick Jane, a detective and independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation, used to pretend to be a psychic medium, but now he just uses his powers of observation to solve crimes, as his unorthodox methods and questionable past occasional rub the other members of his unit the wrong way.
First Impressions: For college students, I'd like to propose a great drinking game to start when "The Mentalist" premieres this fall: Whenever Simon Baker's character -- a former fraudulent psychic turned ultra-observant crimefighter -- spots a clue and they cut to a tight close-up of Baker squinting his eyes, take a shot. You'll be drunk by Act II. That being said, Baker has good eyes and he looks like a charismatic lead. He's surrounded by a good enough cast that viewers may soon get over the impression that "The Mentalist" is suspiciously like a certain USA show only with fewer laughs. The pilot looks to be loaded with recognizable guest stars.
Stars: Simon Baker ("The Guardian"), Robin Tunney ("Prison Break"), Owain Yeoman ("The Nine"), Tim Chang ("Rambo") and Amanda Righetti ("The O.C.")

Dude, my mom likes Simon Baker. Hey, he's cool.
And I liked Owain Yeoman as the nicer bank-robbing brother on "The Nine."

Project Gary - Comedy - Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Divorced after 15 years of marriage, Gary has to move on with his life with his gorgeous new girlfriend, while also staying close to his two kids, his ex-wife and her new boyfriend.
First Impressions: From Jay Mohr to Paula Marshall to Larry Miller, "Project Gary" is full of people who have been known to be funny. And even Jaime King was a hoot on "Kitchen Confidential," but this multi-camera laffer feels awfully sitcom-y and familiar. After having to play restrained for a season on "Ghost Whisperer," Mohr looks like he's having funny yelling and hamming it up.
Stars: Jay Mohr ("Ghost Whisperer"), Paula Marshall ("Out of Practice"), Jamie King ("Kitchen Confidential"), Laura Marano ("Back to You"), Ryan Malgarini ("How to Eat Fried Worms")

Ah, sitcom premises.

Worst Week - Comedy -Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Magazine editor Sam has a great job and a beautiful fiance, but whenever he gets around her conservative parents, disasters tend to follow.
First Impressions: What will the viewer threshold be for watching a nice guy humiliated on a week-to-week basis? The clips we saw seemed to feature a whole season's worth of scatological, sexual and slapstick embarrassments, which will all be packed into a 22-minute pilot somehow. And some of them were funny. As fans of "The Winner" and "Kitchen Confidential" know, Erinn Hayes has a rare combination of sex-appeal and anything-goes humor, while nobody does a disapproving slow-burn like Kurtwood Smith. There's no doubt that star Kyle Bornheimer has everyman appeal, but... and let's not make this seem too harsh... will viewers be distracted by his slightly crossed eyes?
Stars: Kyle Bornheimer ("Jericho"), Erinn Hayes ("The Winner"), Kurtwood Smith ("That '70s Show"), Nancy Lenehan ("My Name Is Earl")

Just go curse yourselves with that title, fools.

Harper's Island - Horror Drama - Premiering: Midseason
Premise: A group of family and friends head to a secluded island off the coast of Seattle for a destination wedding. In addition to being picturesque and romantic, the island is also infamous as the site of a homicidal maniac's killing rampage seven years earlier. When people start turning up dead, that becomes a major concern.
First Impressions: It's "My Big Fat White Horror-Wedding," or "Reunion" meets "Big Day" meets "Friday the 13th." "Harper's Island" looks like the sort of knock-off slasher film that usually gets released in January and makes a lot of money without being screened for critics. But those sagas of cute, thin white folks getting butchered only need to last 90 minutes, while this show will somehow have to sustain 13 episodes.
Stars: Elaine Cassidy ("Felicia's Journey"), Ryan Merriman ("Final Destination 3), others TBA

If done very, very carefully, could have been awesome. But CBS doesn't do high-concept well. Even its supernatural shows are procedurals.
Check out the video clip.
Production looks very cheap, and dialogue too bland for fun. Most of the actors look bland as well, 'cept for one guy who looks a bit like Cillian Murphy. But that was just for one shot.

TWOP snarksters can be hit-or-miss, but the one who is covering upfronts is pretty good, capturing the insane atmosphere of the event while commenting on the shows too. Well, besides the haterade on Craig Ferguson. Maybe it was an off day for the Scotsman, though.
The CBS upfront
ABC
The CW

Oh, and I came up with some ideas for shows.
One is inspired by all the rich and pretty people shows presented by the CW yesterday. It's titled "Opportunity Valley." Basically a mix of all the different upper-middle class to upper class high school environments in Silicon Valley. I'll expand on it if anyone asks. But the pilot starts with a double suicide. At least, the guy goes through with it. The girl doesn't. Cut to title.
Second one I'm bringing up because "Harper's Island" above reminded me of it. I want to make an American miniseries of "Battle Royale." The Japanese novel that was made into the controversial movie. I will keep the characters Japanese. I've made extensive notes on how to translate the novel into 6 episodes. This is something I've been stewing on for a while.

okay, sleepy time now.

okay, now for ABC.
ABC's 2008-2009 season
scheduling grid
Overall, most of the schedule hasn't changed.
ABC's cancelled shows include "October Road," "Men in Trees" and "Miss Guided," as well as the less bubble-worthy comedies "Carpoolers" and "Cavemen."

Scrubs to be on ABC, more upfront news

The new shows

The Goode Family - Animated Comedy - Premiering: Midseason
Premise: A well-meaning family attempts to always do the right thing, but their attempts at political, social or environmental action tend to lead to hilarious consequences.
Stars: Mike Judge, Nancy Carell, Dave Herman, Abby Elliot

I actually like watching the occasional rerun of King of the Hill, so a Mike Judge show for the late '00's could be interesting. Then again, it could fall flat. And on ABC too?
pics of "The Goode Family"

Life on Mars - Drama - Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Based on the acclaimed BBC format, the series focuses on a modern-day police detective who gets into a car crash and finds himself in 1973, where he's still a detective, but things are 35 years different.
Stars: Jason O'Mara ("The Agency"), Rachelle LeFevre ("What About Brian"), Colm Meaney ("The Commitments"), Stephanie Jacobsen ("Battlestar Galactica: Razor"), Lenny Clarke ("The Job"), Patrick Wenk-Wolff and Richard Benjamin ("Goodbye, Columbus") as Milton Kornboll

Look at the promo pic. John Simm wannabe, you are not John Simm. But I have liked Colm Meaney since Star Trek DS9.
More info: The show comes from the people who brought you October Road. yup. and: Most significantly, though, "there's one large conceptual, mythological piece we're changing that's out of the Appelbaum-Nemec-Rosenberg brain trust," McPherson says. The BBC series on which it's based ended after just two eight-episode seasons, and the change will help position the show for the kind of open-ended run that's more common to American television.

Opportunity Knocks - Alternative -Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Traveling the country with a semi-truck full of prizes, the "Opportunity Knocks" team will arrive in neighborhoods around the country giving one family per episode the chance to play a game show in front of their friends and neighbors. The family members will be asked trivia questions about their lives and if it turns out that they know all of the answers about their clan, they'll win flat screen TVs, furniture, cash or whatever they desire.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition meets Deal or no Deal.

Scrubs reborn

Untitled Ashton Kutcher/Tyra Banks Project - Alternative - Premiering: Midseason
Premise: ABC promises it will be "a beauty pageant unlike any you've ever seen" and since it's coming from the daring mind of Ashton Kutcher and the fierce mind of Tyra Banks, we have no choice but to believe the hyperbole.

dude, Tyra would so win that cage match.

T'was also the CW's day.
90210 leads CW's new shows
The CW upfront experience, with special guest Adam Levine
I have a headache right now, so lets just get to the new shows.

90210 - Drama - Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Teenager Annie Mills and her adopted brother Dixon are in for a bit of culture shock when the enter West Beverly High, dealing with a new set of cliques and their dad as the school's principal while keeping an eye on their liquor-loving grandma Tabitha.
Stars: Shenae Grimes ("Degrassi: The Next Generation), Tristan Wilds ("The Wire"), Lori Loughlin ("Full House"), Jessica Walter ("Arrested Development"), AnnaLynne McCord ("Nip/Tuck"), Dustin Milligan ("Runaway"), (Michael Steger, "The Winner"), Jessica Stroup ("Reaper"), (Ryan Eggold, "Dirt") and recurring guest star Jennie Garth ("Beverly Hills, 90210")

Further evidence of innovation exodus.
and lol Gossip Girl-style promo pic. Except with cheery fake smiles. Yes, I know who came first. But look at it

Stylista - Alternative - Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Eleven aspiring fashionistas vie for an editorial job with Elle magazine's Fashion News Director, Anne Slowey in this reality competition show in the spirit of "The Devil Wears Prada"
Stars: Anne Slowey and Elle magazine's Creative Director Joe Zee

Tyra's producing.

Surviving the Filty Rich - Drama - Premiering: Fall 2008
Premise: Yale grad Megan Smith wants to be a reporter, but somehow gets roped into being the live-in tutor to a rich Palm Beach lady's bratty twin granddaughters Rose and Sage.
Stars: JoAnna Garcia ("Reba"), Lucy Kate Hale ("Bionic Woman"), Ashley Newbrough ("The Best Years"), (Allan Louis, "Stomp the Yard"), Michael Cassidy ("Smallville," "The O.C.")

Another Alloy Entertainment property, like Gossip Girl. Another show with rich SoCal people. CW, you bore me.

interesting Heroes bits
from the 2nd article above: I did, however, learn that the cast of Heroes has been back at work since May 1, that Adrian "Nathan Petrelli" Pasdar had worked the red carpet outside the Experience (though the show's publicist demurred when I asked if that meant Nathan isn't actually dead)
from the Twitter updates: Milo and Quinto goofing on each other at the put-your-head-on-a-character photo booth.

Lost season finale, or, wow shoot. )

[livejournal.com profile] rondaview invited me up to Berkeley today to watch the Champion League final. My shirt was red, which happened to work out since I like both sides and didn’t have a preference for who should win. That was an entertaining game. Especially Gattuso. Haa. And the angle of that 2nd Inzaghi goal freaked me out. Hee that goal celebration.
-hugs Liverpool flisters- At least you got one! Poor Gerrard kept on missing, and aww Xabi crying…
Congratulations, Milan.

Aack the momentum’s lost for the Fox/CW post. We’ll see how it turns out in fall, though. I just know that Reaper (CW) sounds like a potentially interesting comedic brother to Supernatural, and that Tawny Cypress (Simone from “Heroes”) is in the Fox drama K-Ville, as a cop in New Orleans. Maybe she’ll get to play a more interesting character. And maybe the Terminator spinoff The Sarah Connor Chronicles will be cool. It has Lena Headey (300) and Thomas Dekker (Zach from Heroes!) and Summer Glau (River from Firefly)…
Oh, and via [livejournal.com profile] lay_of_luthien: The preview for ABC’s Pushing Daisies. The show’s about Ned, “a mild-mannered baker of fabulous pies” (that description won me over) who helps out his investigator friend with the power to bring things to life…for a minute. The preview made me laugh. And ooh cast in the scene: Chi McBride (Emerson), and
Swoosie Kurtz -a.k.a. Locke’s mom on Lost- (Lily).

The three Mexican directors who shook up Hollywood last February with 16 Academy Award nominations have formed a moviemaking partnership with Universal Pictures worth a reported $100 million.
Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu will produce five movies, some of them in Spanish, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
Cool!

Also, snatched from [livejournal.com profile] sharkina: Which Cillian Murphy character are you? )

TV
Get well, Jenna Fischer!
Still interesting links I stole a while ago from : Fangirl attacks Jensen Ackles. That’s…wow. I hope Jensen wasn’t traumatized. For something a bit different, great thoughts on the look of Supernatural. The production work is one of the reasons I got hooked on the show.

The 10 greatest completely insane TV shows ever . Hey, I remember Dinosaurs…

Hee Anders’ arms.

I watched the first episode on their myspace. Bit uneven, but before the end I was crying with laughter. Great work, guys!

And, finally…two treats.

Today’s upfront focus: CBS.
Story +lineup
"Kid Nation," in which a group of youngsters occupy a 19th century ghost town for 40 days
Strange.
the Swingin' '70s ensemble drama "Swingtown"
uhhh
Here are helpful descriptions and comments on the new shows by [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63.
Some official descriptions…
THE BIG BANG THEORY : “The chemistry between this gaggle of geniuses and a delightful damsel is about to undergo a stimulating series of inter-personal experiments.”
Oh please no.
Executive produced by Tony and Emmy Award winner Hugh Jackman ("The Boy from Oz," "X-Men"), VIVA LAUGHLIN is a mystery drama with music about eternal optimist and freewheeling businessman Ripley Holden, whose sole ambition is to run a casino in Laughlin, Nev. Occasionally using upbeat contemporary songs to accentuate the drama and humor and advance the story, the series is based on the hit BBC show "Viva Blackpool."
Aww, inconvenient timeslot for me. I hope it’s a remake on par with The Office (US).

CANE stars Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Jimmy Smits ("The West Wing") in an epic drama about the external rivalries and internal power struggles of a large Cuban-American family running an immensely successful rum and sugar business in South Florida...Eddie Matos ("General Hospital"), Rita Moreno ("West Side Story"), Michael Trevino ("The Riches"), Lina Esco ("CSI: NY"), Sam Carman ("Bones"), Alona Tal ("Veronica Mars") and Polly Walker ("Rome") also star.
Yay Latino power! Caribbean Latino, even more. Interesting cast, from the cool Rita Moreno to…Alona Tal, Jo on Supernatural. Hey, what does this mean for Jo…I was okay with her…

MOONLIGHT: is about Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin, upcoming "White Out"), a captivating "undead" private investigator who uses his acute vampire senses to help the living... instead of feeding on them.
So it’s like Angel, except less fun and special? I want the Amber Tamblyn zombie comedy instead!!!

Ooh look I found more links!

And you must watch the Bionic Woman preview, if only to watch the fight between the show star Bionic Woman and the original, crazed bionic woman played by none other than Katee Sackoff, Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica! It’s by the same producers too…do they have a thing for remaking sci-fi shows from the 70’s?

Aww, cool! HBO’s making a Flight of the Conchords series. I posted about them a while ago…“New Zealand’s 4th most popular folk parody duo” is totally awesome. You can watch an episode on their myspace! See my source for more info on the show.

I guess I’ll release some movie links today.
David Boreanaz, Sub-Mariner? Sub-Mariner is one of my favorite comics characters, and David Boreanaz has really become a good leading man. But I don’t think they quite fit.
The official website for The Dark Knight is up, just a teaser pic for now.

And let’s throw in some Star Wars and Conan:

Some fun quotes:
“As a real aficionado, my true favorite is the obscure, never released Episode 2A: The Passive-Aggressive Email Chain of the Sith.””
Which character do you identify with the most in the entire Star Wars saga and why?
Princess Leia -- because I almost made out with my brother once, too.”
Hee, he was interviewed by Cal TV too.
Time to end with another great link from Cleo: check out this headline. Who shot first?

I had to tell my mother today who Jimi Hendrix was. Oh dear.

Upfronts! Today’s network: ABC.
Story + lineup
"Big Shots," which stars Michael Vartan,
Hey, nice to see he’s found work again. His guest spot as a snooty French chef on Kitchen Confidential was fun. It seems like ABC is treating its actors better this past one or two years; a lot of the good actors from canceled shows (some of “The Nine,” for example) have found new jobs at the same network.

At midseason, ABC will bring back "Lost" -- most likely on Wednesdays -- for an uninterrupted run.
Please make it Wednesday. Seeing Lost on some other day will mess with my mind.

What are “Cashmere Mafia” and “Women’s Murder Club?”

Lost cast pics from upfronts!

Some other upfront buzz: Seems like CBS picks vampires over zombies. Aww, that show sounded cool. And Amber Tamblyn is in it! Hope it still makes the schedule.

Since this is the ABC post, how about some Lost links?
Ooh cool Lost clock
Josh Holloway in talks to play Gambit. Awesome.
You can see Jacob in the slowed down video here.
Take the Lost course at Tufts University!
Wait a second…the actress who played Ben’s mother is Michael Emerson’s wife? That’s…odd.
Some interesting Lost thoughts. An excerpt: "In Jewish history, the tribe of Benjamin's women and children were all killed, and the remaining members of the tribe could not longer PROLIFERATE. The historical solution they came up with was to KILL THE MEN from another SUB-TRIBE and TAKE their WOMEN AND CHILDREN."
About Mascara Man: “He is not advancing in time. Ben said to him "you remember "birthdays', don't you Richard" sarcastically.”
Just some more Lost thoughts )

Okay, now I have to get this ton of music links out of the way:
Lily Allen had a mini-meltdown about her image, which is kind of sad, because she‘s cool with her fun lyrics and bright dresses, and she sounds pretty sincere about her insecurities. But she’s feeling better now,
If you’re wondering about what Cheryl Tweedy comment really affected her, or who Tweedy is, well…she’s part of a pop girl group, doesn’t wear much, and is married to Ashley Cole. Grr, Ashley Cole. As an Arsenal fan, I kind of want to blame the whole thing on Cashley.
Check out the Beastie Boys’s new instrumental direction. It sounds alright, but it’s like leading up to something, or serving as a soundtrack, more than an actual song.
Myspacers trash Annie Lennox’s mansion
Spinner’s 3X3 feature is pretty cool. If you can make it through the 15 second ads, you can watch live performances by Mew, Paolo Nutini, Rodrigo y Gabriela, TV on the Radio, Amy Winehouse, and more…
Also, live performances from Amoeba.
Members of the crew of Muse and My Chemical Romance, as well as some MCR members, get food poisoning in Virginia; fans respond with death threats
The Austin City Limits lineup looks pretty varied and pretty cool. Muse? Bjork? Arctic Monkeys? Bob Dylan? The White Stripes? Reverend Horton Heat? Queens of the Stone Age? Gotan Project? Paolo Nutini? Regina Spektor? DeVotchKa? M.I.A.? Andrew Bird? Yo La Tengo? I'm running out of question marks here. Hope that some of these acts get shown on PBS's show.
Check this out- type in the name of song, and it finds the music video for you.
And, coming back to TV: John Krasinski (Jim on “The Office”) plays guitar in Ben Gibbard show

And now, I end with a little chant I made up in Japanese for my favorite Scottish soccer club, Celtic.
Ichi, ni, san, shi
Celtic ni kachite imasu!
Go, roku, shichi, hachi
Shunsuke wa ganbarimasu!

Basically, it’s “1, 2, 3,4, Celtic is winning! 5, 6, 7, 8, Shunsuke (Nakamura) will succeed!” hee.
chrryblssmninja: (megaloo13_armageddon)
Three really tiny things I wanted to say about Heroes:
-Hey Marvel fans, anyone think that the virus is like this show's "Legacy?"
- Kirby Plaza! Jack Kirby shout-out!
- And did anyone catch the issue of Hulk: Gray in the comics that Candice gave Micah! Woo! Drawn by Tim Sale (the guy who does Issac's and Peter's paintings), written by Jeph Loeb, and generally awesome, you must read Hulk: Gray.

This week is upfronts, when networks announce their lineups for the upcoming fall season. NBC started off. Here’s the full story and lineup, and comments from [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63 about it are here.
"Journeyman," a sci fi-tinged drama about a man ("Rome" star Kevin McKidd) who inexplicably travels through time, will get the 10 p.m. Monday spot after "Heroes,"
Uhhhhhh…interesting. Not sure it’ll turn out good, though.
Bionic Woman only got me interested when I heard that Katee Sackhoff (Cara “Starbuck” Thrace on Battlestar Galactica) might have a supporting role.
What is “The Singing Bee?” No, wait, I think I can guess…it’s a contest…oh dear

Heroes: Origins
Oh my geekery explodery wooo -thump- and yay Charlie-Jayma Mays mention!
We need a Heroes Day. Lost has 8/15, what’s a good number for Heroes?
Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] glorfindelghost had some Heroes pics from the upfronts here.

This past week has really been exhausting. That past Monday, though, the school put up some swings under some trees, which was an excellent way to beat the stress (and that day’s heat). Finished my last final on Saturday. Sunday was Mother’s Day, so we took my mom out for a big brunch before she went to work. After her work, we went to the school carnival. It was great seeing [livejournal.com profile] damagedlilacs there with mi pequeña Perlita. It was also great ramming into them in the bumper cars. My mom won some small stuffed snakes in one of the carnival games. I named mine Shiina Shoniwa, after two of my favorite rock star heroines. Today I started fixing up all the things I left around during school. Also finished up Disc 2 of Battlestar Galactica Season 2 and I’m so glad we have Disc 3 on hold at the library. My mom also pointed out that the guy who plays Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) was Lex’s supersoldier Wes in the latest episode of Smallville.

Some Heroes links:
Via [livejournal.com profile] gossy16: fun interview with Adrian Pasdar, Malcolm McDowell, and Cristine Rose Aww cool, McDowell’s nephew is Alexander Siddig (Dr. Bashir in Star Trek DS9 and the good prince in Syriana.
TWOP has posted Part 1 and Part 2 of a Jack Coleman interview you can listen to.
And, one BSG link: Yep, 4th season to be last. Too bad. Although knowing the end date is quite the storytelling advantage. ETA: Okay, maybe not the final season...

I’ve made some assorted icons over the past few months (music and soccer and tv oh my!), but I’ve never had time to post them. And THEY ARE MANY. So I’ll just post some smaller batches up now and later. Since this post is pretty much Heroes-centered, I guess I’ll put the Heroes ones up for now.
