I just finished watching the Norwegian film Cold Prey (Fritt Vilt). It's a pretty standard slasher movie for the the first 2/3, but it fully exploits the situation and puts some fresh ideas to work in the last third. It's not a mindblowing classic, but it's one of the few films that does formula right.

Part of what elevates that last third is that the character Jannicke, played by Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, becomes pretty smart and compelling.

So I looked her up, and I find that she's playing Sergeant Angua in the Going Postal Discworld TV adaptation. I think she's got the Angua spirit. I forgot how much Angua's in that book, though.

haha it's awesome when I look up someone from something random I watched and it turns out they're going to be in a thing I want to see. It's happened two or three times now, I forget for whom. But it's still awesome.

also, earlier I watched another serial killer movie, Crimson Rivers (Les rivières pourpres). Both films are set high up in the wintry mountains, although the people in Cold Prey are much more isolated. Still, lol I did not do this snow + serial killer double feature on purpose

ETA: how could I forget this
I also watched Conan O'Brien last night and his response to the whole late night debacle was great and funny
COCO FTW

You must watch these Cold War Kids performances. In the second one just watch where they end up. Wow. I hope those people weren’t in a rush to go anywhere. Also, the video for "Hospital Beds". Editing is fast but not dizzy, some cheesy shots but overall alright. Wow, Nathan Willett is buff.

Daytrotter has new sessions by Sondre Lerche and White Rabbits. White Rabbits White Rabbits yay yay oh my gosh my fave White Rabbits song just started to play on my media player how awesome how freaky but song’s still awesome
Also great: [livejournal.com profile] bittersweet_bun has uploaded both Sakuran, the film that Shiina Ringo scored, and Heisei Fuuzoku, a new album “inspired by” the film. Check them out here. Heisei Fuuzoku consists mainly of orchestral/jazz covers of older Shiina songs, but in “Karisome Otome” she incorporates tango in way reminiscent of one song from Moulin Rouge (same message, too). But it is so much better and less gimmicky and -faints- Just when I thought I couldn’t appreciate Shiina more, she makes a tango song. -stands up, sighs, faints again-

Dude. Right now I'm watching some weird classical music music video composed of various shots from kaleidoscopes sort of melting into each other. The Classic Arts feed is awesome.
Alright, it just finished. All I could get from the name at the end was "Clair de lune from Suite No.2 by louis vierne graphics by Marsall Yeager www.seemusicdvd.com" Now they're showing clips from a Mahalia Jackson documentary.

Well, this week was eventful. )

I saw The Night Shift, a new show Saturdays at midnight on KTSF Channel 26 (the mostly Asian channel). The people from Stir are there. They had some fun indie bands on. Chow Nasty gave a very energetic performance of a song that had the cheerleading refrain "Go Go Ogawa" or something like that. Addictive. Brian, one of the hosts, interviewed the Dandy Warhols' lead singer and drummer in that audio/tape place in Metreon. Then they showed one of the videos, "For the Money" I think is the name of the song. Good stuff. A video from Supersystem was up next. I should go check more of their work. The GAME coverage was fun, if a bit too centered on dating. The Memoirs of a Geisha review should have been better articulated, though. I did like the "Won't freak you out like a Cronenberg movie" part, though. People, watch this show! Next week they've got MIA! Hopefully it will last longer than Stir.
And they accept films! And music videos! Woohoo!

Movie link: Raimi plans Pratchett film
Now I have to read it.

Well, Golden Globes are tomorrow. Should be interesting. See y'all someday!
