I just finished The Hunger Games, and I did think from time to time that, if done right, it could be a great movie. And sure enough, the movie rights have been picked up. One person's not so sure that a film adaption would work- although I think a good script, cast and director could get that "deception" angle right without narration.

So there was a party post at [livejournal.com profile] to_boldly_rock that ended early last week. It was very productive, fannish-wise. I set up a Youtube account, toboldlyrock, and right now 11 songs by comm members are either on the account or favorited.

Here are the songs I wrote and recorded. The last three were products of that party post; I couldn't have written them without ideas by the other posters.
Don't mind the video - I had to sing into the bottom of the camera to try and get the audio somewhat audible, so everything's upside down. I wasn't really singing for performance either. Just trying to get the melody down before my brain forgets or my family walks in and wonders what I'm doing.

I posted the first three songs here already, but now they're in easy-to-listen Youtube format.

on my 9th or 10th birthday, one of my presents- from a relative or friend or classmate, can't remember- was a Q doll. I was a bit puzzled, for while I grew up on Star Trek, I wasn't that much of a fan. By that time I was (AND STILL AM, BUT HEY NO HATE) mainly a Star Wars girl. But over time, I eventually appreciated that I had received such an uncommon doll, especially since it was the awesome Q.

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] ohdearyme!

Oh hey it's the first time in a long time that Star Trek entered a dream.
old school Trek

so I was watching this talent show? for school? and Worf was part of a dance crew. I don't know if they were on ice or some other special surface, because I remember thinking the moves were too hard for me. So the spaceship interior looked a lot like a mall, and outside a store I saw someone carrying a guitar case, and then later on I was carrying a guitar case? Later on, for some reason, I needed to report to the Captain and find the bridge, and I was lost and I didn't know where the command bridge level was. I was wandering in a level that looked like Valley Fair's Nordstrom when I ran into Riker. He was lost too. So we went down the escalator and entered a level that looked like a typical mall, slightly gray. We managed to run into Captain Sisko, who was very nice and willing to help lead us to the bridge. But somehow my mind shifted to a video game someone was presenting, something about zombies (or just dangerous people pretending to be dead) on a sailing ship. There was a shark outside the ship I didn't see but dream-remembered.

before Trek entered the latter parts of my dreamtime, I was in a mix of my university and a sort of theme park. The industrial San Jose/Campbell/Berkeley street mix city showed up in my dreams again, and I really wanted to get to those little Asian restaurants I visited in two earlier dreams. But when I started walking, I realized I couldn't go there and get my pearl tea because class was going to start soon. Argh, most of the time whenthat hybrid place shows up in my dream, I don't get the pearl tea and food I wanted. grr.

I blame [livejournal.com profile] ontd_startrek for dredging up the TNG and DS9 that showed up in my dream, and for getting the lyrics in my post title stuck in my head (I barely watched Enterprise, what?)
chrryblssmninja: (lucia-tanaka_geniusgame)
so I've been lurking on [livejournal.com profile] ontd_startrek for several days now

but there was a DS9 post

and I was like "I grew up on TNG and DS9 and a few random TOS episodes and even if I don't remember plots I still need to comment on things like O'Brien-Bashir epic friendship!"

so I joined.

Immediately afterward, I joined like 3 or 4 Star Wars comms

just to prove my ultimate loyalty

FRESH ASS PICTURE!!! YO WHY CAN'T ALL PAPARAZZI PHOTOS BE THIS GOOD? WELL OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE MOST CELEBS JUST AREN'T RIHANNA LOL! ... BUT ON THE REAL, THIS PIC IS HARDCORE. PEEP THE PERSPECTIVE SHOT OF THE CITY IN THE BACK. SOMETIMES THE PAPS OVEREXPOSE THE LENS OR HAVE THE FLASH TOO HIGH TAKING ALL THE EMOTION OUT OF THE MOMENT. THIS MOMENT IS CAPTURED IN TIME NOW. I LOOK AT OUR CURRENT SUPERSTARS LIKE LEGENDS IN THE MAKING... LIKE JUSTIN IS THE NEW MIKE , BEYONCE'S THE NEW TINA TURNER, GAGA'S MADONNA, JAY IS SINATRA... WAYNE IS HENDRIX, THOM YORKE IS ROGER WATERS, THESE ARE THE CHAMPIONS AND SHOULD BE DOCUMENTED AS SUCH. THAT SAID, IT WOULD BE DOPE IF THE PAPS OPERATED WITH THE SAME INTEGRITY AND ATTENTION TO THEIR CRAFT AS THE LEGENDS THEY PHOTOGRAPH..... GOOD JOB ON THIS ONE!

Gender-reversed castin for Star Trek 2.0
great concept, though I don't agree with all the choices. I'm still working on a list, and I'd like some help. Don't take it personally if I don't agree with your suggestion - I'm quite picky, and you can always prove me wrong in your own post.
here's what I'm thinking so far:
Kirk- Katie Cassidy (the original Ruby on Supernatural) While I like Strahovski, I don't see her quite as Kirk, and Katee Sackhoff's Starbuck is a bit too close in character to Kirk for me to want Sackhoff to play a similar role
Spock- I have nooooo idea
Uhura- don’t tell me Chiwetel Ejiofor is too old for this
McCoy- If Natalie Morales were older and less skinny? Maybe Carla Gugino is the right age. I like Lena Headey, but her face looks too skinny and I'm still not sure about her accent
Scotty - Ashley Jensen (Extras, Ugly Betty). I think she can pull off slightly spotty genius engineer. And she's got the accent. 'nuff said.
Sulu - Anna Tsuchiya. More skilled (if not fluent) in English than most other Japanese actresses, and that voice. Physicality and voice is what's key for Sulu. She's tough and can probably fence like George Takei in his prime. Also, it'd be awesome for her to pull one of her non-standard Japanese accents/dialects for this.
Chekov- I guess I’ll go with that person suggested by [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn in that post
Pike - Lena Olin? Michelle Forbes? I also like that one commenter suggested Angela Bassett, she'd be awesome

and I really like the OP's suggestion of Jennifer Connelly as Nero

give me your suggestions! I'll put together a post with more proof of suitability (pics/vids) later on.

also on that post: casting comment for reverse gender classic Trek. awesome.

ETA: how about a female director too?
lol Agnes Varda's Star Trek
maybe Antonia Bird -she made Ravenous manly enough
not sure about Angela G. Robinson - the new Herbie and D.E.B.S. didn't do well
how about the lady who directed Point Break
chrryblssmninja: (inspireoncemore_giantduckie)
Saw Star Trek. My mind wasn't blown, but it was still lots of fun. There needs to be an accent-off between Chekov and Scotty and that subtle Southern-ish thing Karl Urban did for McCoy.
oh, and someone needs to make a manip with Lost's Jack and Sawyer and Dan's notebook, with the text,"Damn it, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a physicist!"

yes, Lost is still on the brain, and I keep on spamming [livejournal.com profile] ontd_lost with more fake Lost songs.
more of the Lost dance musical can be found here and this tribute song for dead characters was inspired by the 30 Rock finale.
An example: In the comments for the first link, [livejournal.com profile] amarettosours and I were talking about West Side Story and how Mr. (Tom) Friendly could probaby only find love off-island. It resulted in this:
Guys are the best in Ame-ri-ca
Short or long-tressed in Ame-ri-ca
Rustle and rest in Ame-ri-ca
I only love in America

These Other males are all just straight
Great guys yet at times it does grate

that I'm the only one like me
in island soci-e-ty!

(chorus)

I SERIOUSLY DON'T KNOW WHERE ALL OF THIS IS COMING FROM

Went to Borders while doing errands some time afterwards, and when I saw a copy of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies I totally grabbed it and ran like new!movie!Chekov to bring it to my mom, who was already in line for the cashier. En route, I knocked over some books and had to stop to pick them up. yeah.

So now I own Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! I need to finish The Antigua Stamp (by Robert Graves, so good) and these other library books first, though. As well as those free audiobook files of Pride and Prejudice. I'm sort of half-listening to them, and I hope that experience gives me this dreamy confused nostalgia thing when I read the text altered in the zombie mashup novel.

I suppose all of you who are multifannish know at least to some degree what I am talking about, because essentially, I am talking about being in two fandoms at once. But while most people experience two fandoms as two different things they’re interested in, for me, it is the same thing, in two languages.

I caught the last 20 minutes or so of the Toluca game. 4 -1, with a hat trick from Mancilla! It was sad, though, to see the empty stadium, with health banners over the seats.

lol today in church, the priest talked about the upcoming Star Trek movie (and was totally geeky, like mentioning J.J. Abrams and Alias and Lost and Sylar from Heroes) and then compared the issues to authenticity and telling new stories to the impressions of upcoming confirmation candidates. It was awesome, even if I don't care one way or the other about the new movie.

finally, Will Ferrell to team up with Dead Snow director for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters
The idea is, they've grown up and they hunt witches... It's a hybrid sort of old-timey feeling, yet there's pump-action shotguns. Modern technology but in an old style. We heard it and we were just like, 'That's a freakin' franchise! You could make three of those!'
Sounds a little like Fables and a lot like Supernatural.

we only need one new version of Hansel and Gretel:

description from this review:
Life is pretty good in the small village of Hibari-Cho. Baked goods are mined from Bread Mountain, the host of Sister Garden pulls vegetables right out of her hair, and a giant pig cuts sides of meat off of himself for people to eat. All of this goes to the food market run by Hansel and Gretel’s parents, and everyone is happy. When the sources of food suddenly dry up, though, the villagers are lured to a strange place called Foodland where everything is made out of candy. Soon, the entire town is under an evil witch’s thrall, and it comes down to Hansel and Gretel to save them all. Good thing Gretel has her sword, and Hansel his super-powered voice that can destroy things with just a whisper. They’ll need them to stop a chilling face from their past!

No more Halo movie. I agree with the article’s view: It really is a shame, and I hope people from Universal and Fox read this, because this dude Neill Blomkamp would've made an amazing Halo film, unlike any video game adaptation out there. Just check out some of the things he says about his vision: "I wanted it to feel like the most brutal, real version of science fiction in a war environment that you've seen in a while. And Universal was on board with that. I don't really remember what Fox thought about it, but Universal seemed down with it. It would have been cool, it would have been a unique take on things, science fiction in a dirty, organic way."
Really, watch Blomkamp’s short films on Youtube. He does fantastic work with realistic sci-fi.

A capacity crowd came to see David Beckham play soccer and a fight broke out.
Beckham played the entire 90 minutes for the third time in six days, and was limping slightly near the end of the game in which he served as captain for the third consecutive match.
"He looked hobbled," Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said. "I used him tonight and I shouldn't have done that." …
A shoving match ensued between the teams, which Beckham quickly backed out of and circled around. Defender Alex Zotinca of Chivas USA head-butted Galaxy midfielder Kevin Harmse in the scrum, and Harmse threw a punch at Zotinca. Both received red cards.

Sheesh. Here’s the video.

Hihihihihihihihihihihihihihi! The internet connection in my room is bad right now, so I’ll just take the time to type up a post.

Yesterday I had such a gigantic headache that I couldn’t even read, much less go f-listing. But today I’m okay. Had lunch and hung out with my great friend KellyLoki. The fishies in the Cupertino library aquarium are very soothing to watch.

Now…IT’S LINKTIME!!! Bwhahhahahahahahahaha…no lj-cut here! Suffer!

And I hope that I can get to reading Macbeth before I get my hands on the second season. Because it’s help me see all the parallels and stuff. You don’t need to read the plays to enjoy the TV show, but it’s fun. What other TV show can get you to read Shakespeare? Besides Wishbone.
