Forgive me for any grammar or vocabulary mistakes below. Feel free to leave corrections in comments. I just typed this right at the moment, only correcting some spelling here and there. I didn't have a document open, so I couldn't put the right accents.

I'm starting to lose the Spanish feeling. Reverting back to ingles now.

Wow, that was weird. Felt like I was in a trance state or something. The Spanish feeling's dissapating now, returning a bit here and there, but definitely fading.

- - -
Translation of the above:
After watching Pan's Labyrinth, I couldn't think without Spanish words invading my vocabulary. I wanted to write a poem about the mandrake root, and I wanted to write it in Spanish, but I didn't know the words for the first stanza...
Anybody have this problem?

And when I was typing a comment to [livejournal.com profile] claennis, I had to stop myself from writing it in Spanish.

I have to refresh my Spanish for my internship. [not in the above: I don't have to be superfluent, just at least have the right sounds for words in my mind. I already watch and listen to stuff in Spanish. just need a little extra here and there] I am learning Japanese words and writing the meanings [here I wrote the Japanese word for "meaning:" "imi"] (ay, I'm thinking in Japanese now?) (and the practice sentences) in Spanish. Ay, I'm starting to lose the Spanish feeling. Reverting back to English now.
- - -

uhh, yeah.

Hey, I redid this quiz last night. Did it over and over, without looking at the answers. This was the highest score I got. Better than the last time, even the result when I did look at the answers beforehand. I think that other geography game helped.

About the school shooting…it’s just…33 people dead? It’s just hard to process.

I don’t like the drop in intelligence that Nightline has suffered from since changing formats, though. My gosh, all the journasensationalist speak and alliteration and “inflict mayhem” conflicted with some good reporting. But what really shocked me was when they had a report on school shootings overall in the United States. They ended the report with a question like, “why doesn’t this happen in other advanced countries?” Well, didn’t Canada and Germany have relatively recent school shootings? Maybe it doesn’t happen with the same frequency as in the U.S., but still…

Do read this, though, if you seek interesting thoughts on the past Lost episode. Buried alive!

I did have a Lost dream this week, though. In Othertown, Kate was doing this weird yet fun clapping dance with Paolo under a tree. Past them, where everyone thought the sea began, was actually a paved road. On that road, Ben and Juliet were patrolling in an open Jeep. And then I shifted from unseen observer to gorilla and I had to bounce onto the top of buildings in a city full of tall buildings because this big gorilla was chasing me…and I lost him! He crashed into the honeymoon suite of a hotel and got stuck. I was able to high-bounce away! And (as non-gorilla me) then came this thing with seeing old high school classmates and trying to show them music on a computer…

Oh, and everyone check out the results for the character question meme!

Waah Spring Break is over.

Monday: Tried to finish Anansi Boys before returning it to the library, but I started it too late. It’s good stuff- so need to finish it. I did finish Courtney Crumrin Volumes 2+3. It’s this great comic book/graphic novel series by Ted Naifeh (whom I’ve met. He’s pretty cool.) about a dark little girl in the dark little world of rich suburbia. There is magic. And monsters. Check it out.
I woke up from a dream where, among many weird things, the weirdest, most striking thing that happened was that THE GUY AT THE DRIVE-THRU WINDOW KNEW WE WERE IN A RUSH AND TOOK ADVANTAGE AND STARTING EATING OUR FOOD AND I FELT HELPLESS AND THANKFULLY HIS MANAGER CAUGHT HIM GRR.

Lost thoughts, tons of links, and a recap of my Monday San Francisco Adventure to come later. But wanted to put some music and meme things here.

Yesterday, the songs playing in my head were “Carry On” by Panda and “Totem on the Timeline” by Klaxons. Got so addicted to them that I had to go on my myspace just to play Carry On and then follow that with the Totem that I downloaded.
In between, I listened to the Rhythms del Mundo CD, where two members of the Buena Vista Social Club made mostly good salsa and son versions of Western songs ranging from “As Time Goes By” to “Clocks” and “She Will Be Loved.” The best one, which I copied onto tape cassette, was the blistering salsa sound added to the Arctic Monkeys’ “Dancing Shoes.”
This got me on a bit of an Arctic Monkeys kick. A week or two ago, I recorded (onto tape again) the latest single off the radio. The DJ said it was called “Brainstorm.” Well, yesterday, I looked it up. Turns out it’s really “BRIANstorm.” Cheeky little monkeys. Found the video -opinion’s mixed on the visuals, though they are trying to say something- but just listen to it.

I’m a sucker for fast drums and guitars. Those last 15 seconds are just woooh.

An excerpt: “and I am all like "SORRY MATE, I LOVE YOUR HAIR BUT I AM SO ROOTING FOR DESMOND" and then Sylar's like "I AM SO ROOTING FOR THE EMO!HAIR, I CAN FEEL THE POWER!!"”
All it needs is Mohinder screaming, “You killed my father! Prepare to die!”

Oh, and this week’s episode was directed by none other than Roxann Dawson, who played the half-human, half-Klingon B'Elanna Torres on Star Trek Voyager. This show is geek heaven.
Okay, Heroes - Run! )

Studio 60: Unlike most posters, I liked the fantasy flashbacks, as well as the big revelation that I predicted a few minutes before but yeah. Much more interesting for the Matt character than the red-state/blue state Matt/Harriet thing. Harriet deserves so much better. And better doesn’t exactly mean Luke.
Jordan/Danny are back to being cute again. And gaah reality lady. Jordan was starting to be all flexible and gaah.
The Metric conversion running gag was more or less entertaining.
What was Simon’s line to Matt- “Don’t explain it, I’m reading it?” I need to cut out that quote and carry it around for frequent use.

The happiest moment of Monday night: The Studio 60 previews. Because they made me shout “Mom! Isn’t that MARIEL? “
KARI! MATCHETT! IS BACK ON MY TV! I actually felt like dancing around. Oh my gosh. She’s what drew me back to Invasion when it got past its sleep-inducing start and metamorphosed into a totally awesome slow-burn sci-fi show. Mariel Underlay was this complex character who had to struggle with the fact that she has become an alien and she’s still the same person but now a totally different species and aaaugh. I am so not lj-cutting this because everyone needs to see. That finale. Oh my gosh. Too bad it was only one season. William Fitchner was ten kinds of goodness as the ambiguously aligned sheriff/local leader for the invasion. Eddie Cibrian surprised me as the good guy human doctor, and the supporting characters (even the slightly annoying second wife) all grew on me. The cinematography was orange-tinted and pretty, capturing the warm swampy feel of Florida (helps that the creator’s wife used to live there, I guess). And then James Frain exuded attractive evil as Szura, the totally dangerous alien who jumpstarted the more aggressive (and really scary) part of the alien takeover.
Okay. Back to the main point. Kari Machett was a revelation, this magnetic source of calm and conflict that really clicked with my mom and me. Glad that she’s found more work on United States TV (she could have always gone back to Canada). Even if Studio 60 is a flawed, soon-to-be-cancelled show, it has a super great cast. They pick Lucy Davis, see the dramatic potential in D. L. Hughley, make Amanda Peet surprise me, introduce me to the aww cute Nate Cordry, and got that cool Kids in the Hall guy to play a cool (if underused) character. Why can’t this show have been better? I hope this becomes a platform to greater things for them.

Supernatural was pretty good, if too quiet. Something about the pace was too slow and quiet for this show. But there were some great scenes, and Demon!Sam was very interesting.

I just watched The Descent and that movie made me scared and sad at the same time. When the cave monsters started jumping on the protagonist, I screamed "Get off her!" and then burst into tears. Maybe my cold was partly to blame. Anyways, the movie inspired me to get some screen caps and make some icons, including my new bloody scream default icon.

I AM FREE!

Well, okay, I still have finals on Wednesday and Thursday. But NO MORE CLASSES THIS YEAR YAY. Thanks to you all for the nice comments about the oral exam. My conversation partner and I were really nervous, and I’m so grateful to her for leading with most of the questions. Most of my answers were really simple, and I stumbled a lot, but I think the teacher would understand. On the written exam, I was able to go with my instinct with all except one part of each half of the exam. And on the listening exam, on one question, I listened to the wrong thing (I kept on writing down “go”, for 5, but then I realized that it was the “go” for time of day aack). But I’ll still take Japanese 1B next semester. The program is well-developed and interesting, and hiragana is so fun and pretty to write with.

Crazy things I saw on the news today:

Perhaps
by Wen Yiduo

Perhaps you have wept and wept, and can weep no more.
Perhaps. Perhaps you ought to sleep a bit;
then don't let the nighthawk cough, the frogs
croak, or the bats fly

Don't let the sunlight open the curtains onto your eyes.
Don't let a cool breeze brush your eyebrows.
Ah, no one will be able to startle you awake.
I will open an umbrella of dark pines to shelter your sleep.

Perhaps you hear earthworms digging in the mud,
or listen to the root hairs of small grasses sucking up water.
Perhaps this music you are listening to is far lovelier
than the swearing and cursing noises of men.

Then I will close your eyelids and shut them tight.
I will let you sleep; I will let you sleep.
I will cover you lightly, lightly with yellow earth.
I will slowly, slowly let the ashes of paper money fly.

Just something for today's date. The week's been okay. I saw Tripti and Grace on Quiz Kids. Have the only females on that show been a Lynbrook student at one point in their lives? Hmm. Friday I saw Persephone's Bees perform live (for free) on campus. Stabbed to death!
Was my dream true?

I'm back!!!

Summer's here!

First, some randomness.

Rosanna, while I was reading over past entries, I found your "Numa numa iei" entry. Now that song will never get out of my head. Is it from Moldavia? I think it is....

Will Natalie Portman use a British accent for the "V for Vendetta" movie? Because that graphic novel is so British...they better not mess it up. They should use a "V" on the poster. And when I see it, I will make a little squeal of fangirlish delight.

Now, since the "Music Profile" feature kind of failed to get a response (yes, part of me does crave attention, I'm ashamed to say), I'll try this: "Interesting Stuff." First entry:

The beginning of art
A rice-planting song
In the backcountry.

-Bashô Matsuo

I went to the Bay Meadows racetrack today because my mom had sales training there. This was my train of thought as I neared the racetrack:
Hmm, hay, stables, ack so much smok-HORSIES! PrettyhorsiesprettyhorsiesBIGhorsiesHORSIESHORSIESHORSIES!!!...
Yep. Those horses are REALLY big.
The horse my parents bet on lost, but that's okay. It was only two dollars. And we really close to the starting-block-place, and it was really cool to watch the race start. Some of the horse names were funny- my favorite was "Rob and Plunder."

Anyways, a bunch of stuff stolen from other people:

What's the difference between a northern fairytale and a southern fairytale?

A northern fairytale begins "Once upon a time...
A southern fairy tale begins "Y'all ain't gonna believe this shit...
